"Big 40 hits from 8.2.86!"
Guess who finally started advertising their shows again?

Next week it'll be all about 1982, more than likely 8/7/82. For the third time in four years. I wish they put more effort in scheduling the 1982 shows because all but one so far have aired last year.

Also, assuming they don't switch up years this time out, the rest of August should more than likely look like this:
8/16/19 - 8/15/87 8/23/19 - 8/26/89 8/30/19 - 8/29/81
I don't think any of those charts have been used yet. The 1987 one I know for sure, but not too sure about the others.

Last year was the first time they did not air a September 1987 chart and this would be an even nicer change of pace.

Are they seriously going with another chart that was used three times out of the past four years?

Seriously, again from August 19, 1989? They should have went with 1987 and they may still do if the outcry is heard or someone suggests it on their FB page like they sometimes have done before...

What is it with getting the same 1989 countdowns almost every year? This is becoming routine, with the only semi-saving grace being that at least we won't get Casey the same week (same goes for 1988 for the rest of the year).
I'd like 1987 and 1981 in the next few weeks; not only are both years about due (last heard in June) but that would probably ensure that we don't get 9/12/87 and/or 9/19/81 yet again.

Yeah it's getting a bit annoying. I mean we almost had 1/7/89 again until the FB users convinced them to do a different year and the rate things are going, it might happen again at the beginning of next year. Same here, but at this point I wouldn't be shocked if it's 8/22/81 and 8/29/87 like last year.

If last year's August 1981/1987 charts really do get repeated again, we're still going to be disappointed and upset. I have zero desire to see the exact same charts being repeated over and over again unless Martha came back to do them. If this becomes a regular thing, listeners will get bored and want to tune out and switch to the iHeart80s station. Not sure if the chart repeats are intentional or deliberate. It's like the charts being repeated are the VJs' or management's favorite charts to cover. It's a perfect way for SXM-80s to punish their own listener audience.

If we had a better program director like Lou Simon, he would have done his best to avoid repeating charts, and even if they did, it would be played back from when it originally aired like the 60s channel. Sadly we don't have that.

Sadly we don't have that. I completely agree. Lou proves it every week with the 60s Survey. One listen and you know a lot more care is taken to get all the information straight. He mixes things up and keeps it relatively fresh. Even with the specials, as overdone as they may be, he makes sure that the rankings come from an authoritative source, Ranking the '60s. That said, it seems highly unlikely that he'd be taking over the Big 40 any time soon. I tried to put a bug in his ear about it once, but got no response. His official title with SiriusXM is VP of programming. I'm not sure how much authority that gives him to decide who produces the music shows. That'll be the next bug...

It's official. They're trying to drive us crazy. Yet another perfect opportunity to give us something different from 1987, but they instead offer us a 1989 chart that's been used 3 out of the last 4 years (just like this week's 1982 chart).

If they would just give us a survey for the subscribers to give feedback on the 80s channel, I think our number 1 complaint will be the excessive use of chart repeats that the Big 40 VJ's use (as well as the current PD plus management) for the past decade, especially for the last 5 years or so.
Perhaps they could do 1987 next week and 1981 the week after, at least we won't be disappointed if they go that route.

I would say the repetition of charts would be a distant second to the gross negligence reflected in the almost-weekly boatload of errors that are made. Exhibit A would be our now-63-page thread.

In addition to our gripes about the countdown shows, I'd also add that the daily playlists are too narrow. It seems like there was a time when people gravitated to satellite radio for the extra variety, now it's almost as repetitive as terrestrial radio.
Also, it seems the equivalent countdown on the 90's channel doesn't fare much better when picking charts. Two of the past three weeks, they chose a chart that was not the closest to the current date. In both cases, the chosen chart was a repeat while the closer chart would have been new.
