Interesting fact about the upcoming episode of 1988--the #1 record (don't want to give it away)--returns this group to #1 breaking the record for the longest period between #1s (22 years).

Ok, I have sent the PD an e-mail with concerns regards to the repeated charts, as well as the VJ Big 40 Countdown errors the channel makes every week. I requested the following to happen, to give fresh new charts, to not repeat charts 1-2 years ago and if they do or more, replay the shows back when the chart date was first used, as well as hiring a fact checker/copy editor to get the information right. Hopefully something will be done and that I'll get the response I'll be looking for, but not holding my breath... Maybe it's time to followup with another email to that honcho and make him aware of the recent disasters. It's bad enough to play the wrong version of the song (Atlanta Lady). But it's a next level flub, even for Casey lite to play the wrong Steve Perry song!

Unfortunately I don't think too many people are going to catch on because "Strung Out" is a rather obscure song anyway so listeners are just going to assume that it's correct.

What was that song that played at the beginning of the countdown, because that was definitely not "Strung Out". It stinks considering that this will be the only week it would be on. "Captured By the Moment", another song from Steve Perry's 1984 "Street Talk" album, which wasn't a single. I don't get how this mistake occurred. I thought of the time in 1972 when Casey played Rod Stewart's "Los Paraguayos", the B-side of "Angel", in its only week on the countdown at #40. (This was corrected in later Premiere broadcasts, where "Angel" was played in its proper place and "Los Paraguayos" as an optional extra with Larry Morgan explaining the error.)

Actually, you should get how this mistake occured. Because guess what? That exact same thing is what happened here! That's right: "Captured By the Moment" turns out to have also been the B-side to the single release of "Strung Out". www.discogs.com/release/2997503-Steve-Perry-Strung-Out

Who is this "honcho" we're supposed to write to? Does anybody actually know who is in charge of putting these shows together?
1988 is finally on a decent track after the June repeat. Next week's will be new and sets us up nicely for a late January chart as well. So if 1987 comes in mid-December, they won't be right on top of each other again.
I'm hoping too that 1982 and 1984 get swapped again for their next airing, which should be the first two weeks of the year. The first chart of 1982 has been done three times, while the first week of 1984 has not been done at all.

Looks like they fixed it. They're playing the actual "Strung Out" now. Who is this "honcho" we're supposed to write to? I'm hoping so too because of we'll end up getting a similar situation with 87-88 this year if 1981 is played late December. Speaking of honchos, I actually reported the error with the song out this morning. I just used this: help.siriusxm.com/app/programming_feedback. I'm surprised they supposedly listened and changed it.

It was more than likely mislabeled and they didn't bother to hear it the first time. At least they fixed that. Wish I could say the same for everything else.

It's almost 2 1/2 hours in and we're just entering the top 10. Who allowed some of these songs to run this long?

For next week, probably another new entry: 11/9/85.

I sure hope they do that one. If so, there will be another song that has never been featured on the Big 40: Billy Joel's "The Night Is Still Young".

It's almost 2 1/2 hours in and we're just entering the top 10. Who allowed some of these songs to run this long? The artists and their producers and record companies? I checked the running times of the songs and there were no excessively elongated (as in too long for most top 40 stations) album versions or remixes played as sometimes happens on this show, nor did the VJ's talk segments run overly long. I guess by this point hit songs were just generally running longer than many times before or since--note that this chart is from shortly after Shadoe Stevens took over AT40, and his version of it generally featured fewer extras than Casey's previous or the subsequent versions of the show.

That was before the show ended, which was around the usual 3 hours. I guess I was still thinking about the last time they did 1988 where it ran well over 3 hours.

Or when they ran 1989 a few weeks ago, with several long versions (Babyface's "It's No Crime" ran for nearly seven minutes whereas the actual hit version only lasted for four.) But "Sowing the Seeds of Love", which IMO is better in its longer version, was cut down to 3 1/2 which is shorter even than the single edit. What gives here sometimes?
