Not exactly - excluding Kenny since he's not in the 1989 chart, there's not one week anywhere in 1979 with any more than half of those in the Top 40 at once. (All including Kenny does is raise the bar to 4 out of 7 at any given time.) Whereas this, as it happens, is the one and only week at any time where all six are accounted for. I'm going to go ahead and guess that "Love You Inside Out", "Mama Can't Buy You Love", "She Believes In Me", and "Heart Of The Night" were all sharing chart space at one point? I should know this thanks to those TFO shows. There was a four-week span when all four songs were in the top 40 together:
| 6/23/79 | 6/30/79 | 7/7/79 | 7/14/79 | "Love You Inside Out" | #11 | #11 | #12 | #29 | "Mama Can't Buy You Love" | #40--> | #30 | #27 | #23 | "She Believes in Me" | #8 | #7 | #5^ | #5^ | "Heart of the Night" | #26 | #23 | #23 | #21 |

While 1982 is an odd choice, any combination of 84-85-88 to follow that would be all new charts, with the exception of 11/10/84 last played in 2012.
Oh, and do I even need to mention that the 90s countdown features a chart last played in 2019? This now makes eleven weeks in a row that featured the same year as 2019. Plus, today's chart is a four-time repeat. They almost have to be doing it on purpose. The statistical odds of randomly choosing so many years in a row are staggering.

Next week's Casey lite...1984

So, this week's 82 proves to be a one-week blip in the picking.
1985 will be due to follow next but if they opt to go for separation (airing a non-consecutive year), 1988 will be the preferred choice - 85 can then go after that, as long as it's 11/9 and not the overplayed (and run the past two years) 11/16.

Aren't there going to be a couple songs that have never been featured on the Big 40 before next week? Regardless, I'm happy they remembered that there were other weeks in October 1984 that weren't the 6th or the 13th.

Looking forward to 1984. This was certainly the year of Prince and Cyndi Lauper! Cyndi debuted in January with "Girls Just Want To Have Fun," and remained in the Top 40 every week for the rest of the year with three additional songs--"Time After Time, "She Bop" (which always embarrassed Alan Hunter), and "All Through The Night." Phenomenal for a debut artist, huh?
Prince had 2 songs in the Top 10 the week featured next weekend, and of course if we hear the normal 9 or so minute "Purple Rain," that will make the show close to or over 3 hours.

Aren't there going to be a couple songs that have never been featured on the Big 40 before next week? Two - "A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing)" and "Strung Out". The latter is one of those "one week at #40" songs, the former spent two weeks in the Top 40 (the first, as it happens, featuring on Premiere this weekend).

With 1984 playing next weekend, all the years have been played at least 4 times. For the last three years, there have been yearend specials, so hopefully the trend will continue for 12-31-21. 2017 was the last time a regular countdown was played the last Friday of December.
The safest year to end 2021 on 12-24 would be 1989 since 1990 isn't played on the VJ Countdown. 1980 would be a good start in 2022 since 1979 isn't featured. This is of course so we don't hear 34 songs like we did from last year's 1987/1988 which were played three weeks apart.

But 1/12 hasn't been done, so that week would work. That said, I'd project 1980 as coming due either by the end of November or beginning of December, so I don't know how likely either one would be. 1989, on the other hand, will actually come due on that very week in December.

How would this work for November 5th through the end of the year--I haven't looked to see if the shows are repeats. Also not sure if there is an end of the year episode on 12-31-21. The last three years have been specials, and since there haven't been any during the year, this should be likely. If there isn't, then I guess 1982 would be up next in the rotation.
11-5 1988 11-12 1985 11-19 1980 11-26 1986 12-3 1983 12-10 1987 12-17 1981 12-24 1989

(No way they use the same calendar date for two years in a row, though.) 11/9/85 and 11/22/86 would be new, 11/22/80 would repeat but that hasn't been done since 2013. (1980 has had all of November and the first half of December done already.) 1981 would also not be new, but 12/19 hasn't been done since 2014. (Plus, the only December week left for 1981 is 12/26, which would compete with 1989.)

Mike--11-26 is closer to 11-29 than it is 11-22. Last year the show started on Thanksgiving Day, which this year is on 11-25, but hoping they still use Friday's closest date. Has 12-19-86 been done too much, as 12-17 is closest to 12-19.

What was that song that played at the beginning of the countdown, because that was definitely not "Strung Out". It stinks considering that this will be the only week it would be on.

11/5/88 it looks like. Should match the date of its premiere too.
As for this week's I'm surprised that the show clocked in at under 3 hours considering they play the usual album version of "Purple Rain". There were a few songs that ran just over or under 3 minutes so that must be why.
