Speaking of repeat shows, I think 1989 will be slated for the first weekend in November with the 11/4/89 chart. That's 10 weeks after the last 1989 show, same as the time between 8/19 and 10/28/89 which have both been overplayed. Unfortunately that may mean we don't get 1989 again until January (please not 1/7/89 again.)
Aside from 1987, 81, and 84, 1982 and 1985 may well reappear in October.

(Thus, the reference to swapping 1984 and 1989 above.)

Actually it would be 10-22, assuming you are referencing the Friday the show debuts.

It is going to be more difficult to avoid repeat charts as next month the Big 40 Countdown will be 12 years old. Several of us give thought to this as to avoid repetition, but how do we communicate this to the honchos who decide what year is played? Due to many charts being repeated, there are still plenty of charts that haven't been played yet. I don't think there's a way to contact the person/people who produce the shows. I couldn't even tell you who that is.

Mike, they seem to be locked in to rotating the 10 weeks, give or take a week reversed. It would take a revamping to get us those charts that hadn't been played. It should happen eventually if that rotation allows. Since it has been 12 years since the show debuted, I am wondering how long Sirius will allow the show to continue. Eventually one of the three may not want to continue, but in reality the show could be done by any one of them as a solo project.

This would be the ideal schedule for October, as all of these will be new as far as I know:
10/1: 10/3/87 (thought we already know that of course) 10/8: 10/10/81 10/15: 10/14/89 10/22: 10/20/84 10/29: 10/30/82
Also over on the BITDR, they have a brand new opening and bumpers. Wish they didn't go with a recent repeat but happens more often than not these days.

Regarding the recent 1983 countdown, it is just phenomenal to say the least, that in five 1983 countdowns in 2021, Michael Jackson has had at least one song in all five countdowns. If 1983 is featured before the end of the year, it will be his 6th appearance with PYT or 7th in duet with Paul McCartney in Say Say Say.

He strings the 7 Thriller singles together, plus "Say Say Say", over 11/13/82 through 4/7/84, so he's going to be in every 1983 countdown. Now, if you're highlighting that each of those besides "Thriller" has appeared in a 1983 chart this year, then - assuming 1983 doesn't disappear for the rest of this year - this will be the third time it happens. The first time actually wasn't until 2017. "The Girl is Mine" has just a six-week 1983 window (seven if you count the frozen 1/1 separately) to appear, so if the first chart is 2/19 or later, then that's a miss. Though anything past "Beat It" is susceptible to being passed over if 1983 ever goes on a long drought in the second half of the year (all but inconceivable considering we're talking about 1983 here), that didn't happen in 2017 - nor in 2019, the second time all seven were hit within the calendar year. 2014, incidentally, would have been the first time, but that was the year where they screwed up a June 1983 airing (on the third week of June, they did the chart from 5/21 for whatever reason - when that week probably should have had 6/18), which meant no "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' " that year. (P.S. 2012 wasn't really up for consideration due to the Billboard exclusivity not starting until mid-February, and "The Girl is Mine" fell out of the Top 40 on 2/19. But 2012 did have the chart from 3/5 air, so there's a decent chance he'd have missed that year anyway.)

Now to just cross our fingers this time next week and hope they don't follow up with 1984...

Something else they've been relatively good at this year is keeping away from Premiere's AT40 selections, though that's hardly by any kind of design of course. Oh sure, there's been a number of instances where the two combine for back to back chart weeks, or one airs a chart that's only two weeks after the one aired on the other. But for both places airing the same thing, there's been just one week that matched an "A" show, one that matched a "B", two times where Big 40 played a chart the week after Premiere, and once where they duplicated the year but not the chart week - for a total of just five as we head into October.
Having said this, that matches the pace at this same point last year, which then proceeded to have three duplications in October alone. But I don't see that happening again this year, not with 1989 and 1984 due to come back here soon, and the latter having just been done by Premiere last week. In truth, I'd be surprised if it happened three more times this year at all. Maybe once more, if that?

I see they're getting better at selecting chart dates than they have been a couple months ago. Out of the last six weeks, including next week, 4 out of the 6 haven't been played up until this point.

I haven’t listened yet, but ahhh, they got rid of the Austin Powers introducing number two, or should I say one? lol, and the Steve Urkel bit.. some of those were actually funny
