I realized an odd similarity between this year's chart selection and last year's. Last year we got 3/28/87 and 5/2/87 a mere five weeks later. This year we got 3/26/83 and 5/7/83 a mere six weeks later. In the latter case, as previously noted, the switch-up could set us up for all-new charts for the remainder of May. We shall see. However...
I also realized that exactly ten weeks after the upcoming 1987 chart is...you guessed it...a 1987 chart played a year ago. It seems that after giving us two 1987 charts so close together last spring, they waited twelve weeks for the next one. Let's hope they do the same again, as August 1987 is heavily underplayed.
Also, over on the 90s countdown, they copy the 2019 schedule for the sixth week in a row. However, it's not the same chart as they played in 2019. Instead, we get a repeat of the very first chart they ever played back in 2012, which was from 5/8/93 and not previously counted down by Julie Brown.

Who was, at that time in 1993, on her tour of duty at American Dance Traxx (which would end that year). Meanwhile, oddly enough, the week before that on AT40 saw another host who's since come and gone from Big 40 sitting in for Shadoe - Martha Quinn.

As much as I'm cool with 81-84 for the last two weeks of the month, does that mean that there's a chance they will do 6/4/88 (from last year) again at the beginning of June?

Yeah...next after 87 should probably be 81 (the only other choice that would both be new and not a year that will have aired in the five weeks prior is 80), but the last week of May is a bit of a difficult choice. Either 84 or 88, in fact, would be a new chart for that week - but while 88 could wait until 6/11, 84's next "new" option after May wouldn't be until 6/23 (which also risks duplicating Premiere, for that matter, if their prerogative of revisiting long-ago aired weeks holds up). But, of course, neither of those years has aired since March... An ideal string after 87 would be: 81-84-80-88. (80 after 84 because given those choices, it'd have the second-longest drought by that point and would help break up a 5-week block of never-done weeks.) We'll see if they get even remotely close to that...

An ideal string after 87 would be: 81-84-80-88. This is exactly what I was thinking. Because, if they don't switch 1980 and 1988 then we're all set up for a string of 1988 repeats from last year. I'm also hoping for no Memorial Day special, although having one would give us a better chance at new 1987 and 1988 shows later in the summer.

I have a feeling they'll do a July 4th special instead of a Memorial Day one.

I have a feeling they'll do a July 4th special instead of a Memorial Day one. It's possible, with the 4th falling on a weekend this year, though I only recall them doing that once before.

They are doing Memorial Day specials on the 60s, 70s and 90s channels. Nothing posted for Casey lite yet. It's extremely rare for the 90s channel to not do a special. I don't think there's been more than two years out of the past nine where they had a regular countdown that weekend.

Is the 70s channel special an in-house one or a special Casey countdown? They do usually rebroadcast the first AT40 on/around July 4.

That seems like kind of a...random point on the calendar to do a special for. Memorial Day and July 4 weekend each make sense, but anywhere in the month of June between those?
Not really a good or a bad thing I suppose, just...different.

June is Black Music Month, so that's why the 60s and 70s channels will be doing those countdowns that month. I don't really see the 80s doing that though.

Seriously 1984? 1981 hadn't been done since the end of February!!! Plus 5/19's been run into the ground at this point. At this point it's well pointless to stress over whether or not they go with charts that hadn't been used ad nauseum.
