If 1986 follows 1982 on 4-30-21, it will be interesting to see if they go with 4-26, which is in April, or advance to May with 5-3-86 (closer to 4-30).

They are going with 4/13/85 Yes, at least we got 2 different 1985 countdowns with 6 different tunes - between Premiere and the Relics. The Bird they just played on the Sat AM Big 40 was a lengthy one and I believe the 'extended' version. The Bird on Premiere that I was listening to on KKLZ seemed shortened (but was not the instrumental version mentioned that The Relics played last time.)

Technically five because "Keeping The Faith" was used as a LDD. I'm kind of hoping they go with 5/3/86 next considering May starts that Saturday.

That would be the best option to go with 5-3-86. Since the show is played until Tuesday, May 4th, April 26th seems really out of date. Of course that is if they go with 1986, which is likely since all the years that started 2021 have followed in order thus far.

5/3 has also not yet been done, while 4/26 has been done twice already, both in the last five years.

Another year where it can go either way. Hoping they go with the newer option.

As it stands, a tight, strict 10-week rotation will produce this: (All airdates are Friday night premieres) 3-26: 3/26/83 (which aired in 2017) 4-2: 4/5/80 (which aired in 2016) 4-9: 4/8/89 (which would be new) 4-16: 4/13 or 4/20/85 (the former a FOURTH time airing last done in 2018, the latter done in 2019) 4-23: 4/24/82 (which aired in 2014) 4-30: 4/26 or 5/3/86 (the former a third time airing last done in 2019, but the latter would be new) 5-7: 5/9/81 (which aired in 2015) 5-14: 5/16/87 (which would be new) 5-21: 5/19/84 (which would be a FOURTH time airing, last done in 2019) In other words, some decidedly mixed results to say the least. Two guaranteed new charts with a chance of a third...but also one fourth-time play with a chance of a second. The best way to sum this up is with a sentiment that just escaped the decade. Mike you nailed it back in March, and this has followed through exactly to include next week. So if 81, 87, and 84 follow as you indicated, that will be 20 weeks with each year played only twice. The following week (5-28) is Memorial Day Weekend, and this should be a Special. As some of us have indicated, maybe by July 30th 2021, an episode including an MTV Tribute to their 40th Anniversary, 8-1-81.

Guess who's not rejoicing at that? The following week (5-28) is Memorial Day Weekend, and this should be a Special. I'd say it's closer to 50/50 as to whether or not it will in fact be a special. The past two years have had one, but the two before that did not (2017 instead had one at the end of June/beginning of July, while 2018 only had a special at year's end). Before that, it went back and forth (2016 yes, 2015 no, and so on). In any case, that week would be a VERY good candidate to instead play a chart that hasn't been done. As it stands, these would all be viable to do that: 5/24 or 31/80, 5/28/83, 5/26/84, 5/25 or 6/1/85, 5/28/88, or 5/27/89, with just 1984 falling off if that 10-week-rotation slate holds. So yeah, my vote would be to move a special week slot this year or just skip it. But at a minimum, there shouldn't be a need to worry about getting 5/29/82 for a fourth consecutive year.

I'm sort of hoping they at least switch 1987 and 1984 to avoid playing 5/19/84 but then again last week was a fourth timer so I don't really see it happening. At least it looks like they're being consistent with the schedule unlike say, 90's on 9, which looks like it's trying to avoid 1990 as much as it can. Again.
Also Alan talking about gumbo before playing Le Roux has made me hungry for some. Too bad the weather's warming up.

Count me in as also hoping for 5/3 next week.
And for those of us who think the Big 40 repeats charts too much, here's something that will make them seem like geniuses...
Over on the 90s on 9, all four of their countdowns in April were the same years, in the same order, as April 2019. Only the first week had a different chart date, and thus was "new." Of the remaining three, two of them were played for the FOURTH time in seven years.

Wow, now that came out of left field. I was fully expecting 1981 since they were going in the same order as the beginning of the year.

And unfortunately, it's not a welcome kind of left-field pick, for it too will be a third-time play, and it was last done in 2018. (As you said above: "Ugh why?")
Waiting just one week would have yielded 5/14/83, which - say it with me now - hasn't yet been done.
