9/22/1979 is the show that introduced "Dark Disco" to us. Only used as an opening theme for four weeks ("Shuckatoom" was brought back to open on 10/20/1979 through 1/7/1984), but kept on as a top-of-hour* and closing theme through 1/7/1984.
* - not used as TOH theme from 4/24/1982 to 1/8/1983

The end “Dark Disco” theme actually had a longer lead in on this show than did most shows of its Sept 1979-Jan 1984 existence (starting in spring 1982 the version with the extended saxophone break was often used.)
The 9/1/79 cue sheet includes a memo from Tom Rounds explaining the forthcoming change in theme music. I don’t know why they quickly switched back to “Shuckatoom” for the opening but not the closing. Maybe the horn based intro was a better, more rousing opening, but the full mid-70s disco piece was becoming outdated as a closing theme.

Is there a count on how many LDD songs were played that didn't hit the Top 40? I feel like Linda Clifford's rendition of "If my Friends Could See Me Now" which only made it as far as #54 in 1978 is a fairly rare occurrence.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall Linda Ronstadt's version of "Desperado" being played as an LDD. Neither Linda's nor The Eagles' original version of the song made the Hot 100, as neither was released as a single.

Another song that had 2 versions was played as a LDD with one of those not a top 40 hit either. "You've got a Friend" by Carole King.

This story on the July 30, ‘77 wheel show about the Five Sharps. Interesting but if I go out to Discogs, I find 12 copies for sale of Jubilee 5104 for as little as $5. The story is repeated on this page for reference. www.discogs.com/master/1124401-The-Five-Sharps-Stormy-Weather-Sleepy-CowboySo did they find a case of these somewhere in the last 50 years, or is this just a nice but made up story?

SXM rarely if ever plays the same year on the weekend as Premiere's A, but if they did feature 1978 this week it would have the unique quality of a three hour and four hour show from the same year played at the same time.

1971 hasn't played since the weekend of 6-15-24, but Premiere is doing that as a "B" this weekend. Next in line for longest without play is 1973. If 1971 can't be chosen, then I hope it is 1973.
