The infamous 'wrong' chart! Well-remember writing this one down as I was hearing it and thinking 'This isn't right!'
...and wondering why Gunhill Road wasn't on it. Was looking forward to hearing their song again, as the only time I'd heard it was on the previous Sunday when it had debuted at #40.

This weekend appears to be from June 9, 1973. Casey with a Billboard computer disclaimer, and the presentation of a prematurely-released chart that contained no singles new to the Top 40. And in each disclaimer Casey gave a rather prophetic "jinx" to radio in general when he kept saying "The computer is now in charge!"

It's a lot of fun (?) looking at the Hot 100 chart from that week (June 9, 1973) and seeing the differences between what AT40 played. Also, love the 'short' explanation of the new improved Hot 100 in Billboard.

And not among Billboard's 'official' Top 40 for 6/9/73, John & Ernest received a bonus AT40 spin. Focus also benefited from the error in a sense, as "Hocus Pocus" is at #8, one notch higher than its official Billboard peak. Though that wouldn't have been heard here even if the correct chart were used, as it fell to #43 on the Hot 100 that Billboard finally published. That week's issue includes the headline "Billboard Launches Super Singles Chart", so evidently they were pumped about the new, supposedly improved methodology.

Wheel of Casey: September 19, 1970. Thanks! That one I'm going to have to flip over to as soon as 'White Squirrel' wraps up '75 in 40 minutes.

June 18-19, 2022: Now let’s go back to this week in 1976 - August Darnell - June 19, 1976 First heard this show on Sunday morning, June 20, 1976, on KBBC-FM out of Phoenix, which I could pick up 120 miles away by turning my portable radio's antenna just the right way. Just two days after seeing Paul McCartney and Wings play at the Tucson Community Center's arena on his 34th birthday, during his 'Wings over America' tour. And today Sir Paul turns 80. Linda McCartney had ties to my area, and Paul and Linda and family often spent time here, at a secluded acreage on the far northeast side of town, up in the foothills of the Santa Catalina range. 'McCartney sightings' were once a fairly common occurrence here, with Paul always friendly and approachable. In return, my fellow Tucsonans always gave he and his family their deserved privacy. Linda's ashes are scattered over that land, which Sir Paul still owns. Although he now rarely visits his home here, he still maintains it with an on-site caretaker. Tying this to today's show, Paul is represented by both the #1 song by Wings, "Silly Love Songs", and by the week's highest debut at #29, The Beatles' "Got To Get You Into My Life".

I've been reading "Paul Mc Cartney-The Life" by Phillip Norman-Norman mentioned that "Got To Get You Into My Life" wasn't written about a lady as most people thought-It was actually an ode to marijuana.

Slammin' Sam Meyers mentioned this during the intro to that song on one of his shows. Gives a whole different perspective on that song!
