The chart this week is from that point where The Bee Gees were dominating and the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack was huge. Ironically I just watched the movie for the first time ever last night. Was flipping thru the channels and it was on started watching it because it didn’t look like what I was expecting. The movie came out when I was six, I have the soundtrack, just assumed the movie was John Travolta dancing to The Bee Gees for two hours. What a surprise to see that the dancing is almost a sub plot. It was actually a better movie than I was expecting. And now on with the countdown....

SXM left in all of Casey's teases and speaking bits, which included a notable gaffe. Casey teased the #1 song (Steve Miller's "The Joker") by saying it was by an artist who opened for Creedence Clearwater Revival when they were the Golliwogs. This seemed to promise a story that wasn't delivered.

Hard to figure out SXM sometimes...

Hard to figure out SXM sometimes... matt ... I know you like to give Sirius/XM Radio grief for chopping up the 70s shows. When I first got Sirius/XM radio two years ago, most airings of AT40 - The 70s were clocking in around 2 hours and 15 minutes. Now, most shows clock in at 2:25... so they are editing out less and less from the shows. I hope you will give them another chance as the edits and mistakes have been less and less frequent lately.
Do they make an occasional error? Yeah. Did I hear some late 70s jingles in a recent '73 show? Yeah. Am I okay hearing shows that are 99.5% authentic anywhere from 33 to 50 years after they originally aired? You bet. Am I happy I don't have to sit through 35 minutes of commercials to hear a 3-hour show? Of course! I'll gladly pay my $12.99/month for my Mostly Music Sirius/XM subscription to hear a full Casey show than in less time on a regular radio station.
Now that I posted what I pay a month, I can't wait to hear how others have bargained down their subscription...

Yeah I will gladly start listening in to SXM AT40's more if they aren't so heavy handed with edits. I'm not anti-SXM (have radios in both my and my wife's vehicles, as well as the online streaming access), I just wasn't a fan of how they chop down the shows, especially when there are other means to hear the unedited shows. It got pretty bad for a while there...

The New York City area wouldn't hear "AT40" until the weekend of 5/8/71-That's when WPIX-FM started airing it-It ran on PIX until 1978.

1974 is the year that's the longest without play so that's my prediction for weekend of 5-15/16.

This is such a great show... a classic... May 12, 1979! Here are ten things you will learn if you listen to the show. I'll present them... Jeopardy style, haha! 1. This is Debbie Harry's favorite hobby. 2. He posed for his high school yearbook picture... dressed as a woman! 3. He quit the music biz in 1970 to become a Washington DC cop. 4. He ended his 2-year retirement after a friend nearly died in a car crash. 5. She spent 5 months recording her debut album, causing the producer to bang his head on the control board! 6. After starring in "The Wiz," Michael Jackson wanted to appear in his next film with these guys. 7. This was the only record label who came to see GQ when they did a music showcase in a South Bronx basement. 8. She had the song on this countdown for the the most weeks - 17. 9. The only act with two songs in the top 40 this week. 10. The Woodstock Festival is mentioned because this band is from Woodstock, NY. Bonus: With Todd Rundgren being voted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame this past week, name the song on this week's countdown that he wrote.
