Sirius XM 7 usually leaves in most or all of the AT40 extras on their regularly scheduled weekend shows now--even those that predate the 1970s. But not so much in these random Thursday night picks. The 8/22/70 show originally had six extras--all from the 1960s--and SXM deleted all of them, making for one of the shortest Casey AT40 presentations ever. Yet another reason not to bother with SXM's presentations of the classic AT40 shows.

Yet another reason not to bother with SXM's presentations of the classic AT40 shows. The weekend ones are generally well done now. Last Thursday's 1970 show was botched: Casey's intro teased an extra (the Knickerbockers' "Lies") that was not played. The sound quality was substandard as well--lots of background noise/hiss and Casey and the songs often sound muffled. Last night they did 1978 and from a quick glance it appears everything was left in (I haven't listened to it yet), but there were no extras to delete.

I wonder if it's a record--all 7 debuts in a row?

I caught some of the 1971 show in my car today and noticed that the pre-1970s extras were played. I was under the impression those always got cut out.

In the Billboard issue of March 27, 1971 there is a short article about AT40 on page 31, mentioning that the show is on the top rated LA station (KRLA)--and the hosts name is Casey Masem.

Over the past few month SXM has started airing the shows with the pre-70’s extras. They’ve been doing very light editing lately. In the past any song or reference to a pre-70’s show was edited out, in some cases making for a very odd sounding show. They still occasionally edit out the Top Three Recap on the later shows (and those are poorly edited) but overall they’ve been doing a better job lately.
