SXM ran the 1979 disco show last year. Of the other July specials, they'd probably only play the 1974 and 78 Top 40 Acts of the 70s countdowns since the others include lots of songs from earlier decades. Premiere, also, tends to limit its special countdowns to those that are mostly or entirely made up of 1970s and/or 80s songs (except for the Christmas shows). One interesting twist would be if they played the 1975 version of the debut countdown, with "1975 Casey and 1970 Casey" crosstalking with each other. I don't think I've ever heard that version of it from either service. I believe SiriusXM ran this 'version' a few years ago--and it simply contains a few announcements of Casey letting the listener know that they are listening to the first AT40 broadcast from the 4th of July 1970.

Cool. 70s on 7 posted about it on Facebook yesterday. "Check Out Yo Mind"... Which of course is the first ever AT40 using the 7/11/70 chart, broadcast on July 4-5, 1970. The chart would be from a week ahead of the broadcast date until May 1971, and both Premiere and SXM usually use the Billboard chart date to avoid confusion, but sometimes with this particular show they refer to it as 7/4/70 presumably due to the patriotic/July 4 symbolism.

The problem with Sirius/XM airing the first countdown is that all the "AT40 Specials" will be deleted since they were from the sixties:"Uptight (Little Old Man)"-Bill Cosby,"Spinning Wheel"-Blood,Sweat,& Tears,"Hello Dolly" by Louis Armstrong & "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones. All those extras were cut out, leaving just #40-#1. Which is an improvement over a version of the same show that SXM has played before, in which "Love Land" and "A Song of Joy" were somehow deleted.

Now lets go back this week in 1973. - Bill Withers. July 14, 1973 skuncle ... I appreciate your weekly postings so I know what show is being played. Just curious... why did you identify Bill Withers with this show when he doesn't have a song on this show? I combed the chart looking for his song when "Friend Of Mine" was at #80 on the 7/14/73 Hot 100. Having said all of that... I'm just glad you didn't identify this show with Clint Holmes . But seriously... it might be cool to identify a particular show with a one-hit wonder (an example for this show could have been Dr. John).. just an idea.
Thanks again for posting the countdown dates for us!

Thanks. Every week SXM has someone intro the show, “Now let’s go back to this week in.....”. I’m just listing whoever SXM has do the intro. For some reason lately it’s been either Bill Withers or Gloria Gaynor. I’m not picking them, SXM is. As for why I post them, awhile back I was asked if I knew which show someone had intro’d. So now I post which intro they play. Incidentally last week for the show there was no celeb intro, just a voice over saying “To celebrate the start of AT40, we present the original first show”.

When XM first began airing AT40 they used Casey saying something about going back to the certain year to be aired--after Casey passed away, those intros went to artists that were associated with the '70's.

Now this all makes sense. I listen to the show Saturday mornings but I usually tune in a little after 6 a.m. my time... which is after the intros have been played. Thanks for the info!!! Having listened to AT40 - The 70s on 70s on 7 for a few months now, I listened to the 7/9/88 show on WWIS yesterday. It is so nice hearing 70s shows without commercials. Having a 3 hour show clock in around 2 hours and 15 minutes is great (and I'm cool with a few songs being shortened). Hearing an 80s show with commercials seemed... incredibly... long. I wonder how kids today listen to a 4-hour show given how short attention spans are these days!

Now let’s go back to this week in 1974 - Alan Parsons. July 20, 1974 For the "American Top 40" purist -- someone who follows Casey Kasem's Top 40 review of Billboard's Hot 100 regular weekly singles -- this was the first program in a month that returned the show to the norm. Since the last one on June 22, 1974, AT40 featured an 'estimated chart' program, a special, and a guest-hosted show. Also, I'm assuming that XM, for this program, edited out the radio mentions where stations ID'd themselves.

I suppose to keep from having two guest hosts during a three week period but I'm glad they never repeated that again.
