The first AT40 show I heard was the 5/17/99 edition on Kiss 108 (WXKS-FM/Boston). The #1 that week was "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None The Richer. I was 9 at the time, and just discovering MTV and Pop radio in general. I really liked that I could hear 40 popular songs as opposed to just 10 on TRL, so I followed the countdown and started to rearrange the songs into my own top 40 starting in September '99. I discovered AT40 also aired on 92 PRO FM (WPRO-FM/Providence) sometime in 2000 or 2001, and then I discovered AT20-HAC over the internet around November 2001. I also heard AT20-AC on the radio around April 2002 on a road trip on WASH-FM in Washington, DC. I've been keeping up with AT20 on Mix 93.1 out of Springfield, MA, and I'll miss doing that on Sunday mornings!

I found AT40 by accident about 1973 on WPIX(101.9) in NYC. Then it moved down the dial to 99X(WXLO-98.7). Then it jumped to AM to 66WNNNNNNNNBC. It finally stopped at WPLJ 95.5. Man, what a ride!

the first time for me was sometime in the summer of 1978, when shadow dancing was #1. i would listen to it on KJR Seattle saturday mornings (really early), then on KGW Portland, sunday mornings at 10:30, then i would listen again to KJR sunday night. i would also write down the top 40 each week (i was only 10 at the time)

The first show I remember was November 19, 1983. Back then we could listen to AT 40 with Casey Kasem in Austria via the ORF Network (oe3). I used to record songs off the air and cut out the intros/outros. The ORF reduced the show to 3 hours and started around # 33 every week. I still have a cassette with off-air recordings of Love Is A Stranger by the Eurythmics and Major Tom (Coming Home) by Peter Schilling which came in at numbers 31 and 28 respectively that very week.

The first show I ever heard was 8/27/77. It was on a sunday morning on WBT radio in Charlotte NC. I was getting ready for a family reunion when I tuned in to a countdown show I had never heard before. Then I listened as Casey played a live version of Suspicious Minds to pay tribute to the death of Elvis. Later I found out that I could listen to AT40 on saturday night on Z93 FM in Winston-Salem. I was 14 at the time. From that point on, I have been a huge Casey Kasem/AT40 fan.

I think the first time I heard it was in 1974 or '75, on WKAP Allentown.
The Lehigh Valley, like NY and many other areas, had its friendly competition among top-40 stations, but while most folks turned to WAEB or WEEX, only Super 1320 'KAP had Casey.
I was immediately impressed with the production quality and of course, Casey's fantastic skills as a storyteller.
Later on I discovered 'KAP was one of those stations that gave away its AT40 discs weekly to a randomly-selected listener who correctly picked the #1 song for that week. I won that drawing three times over 1976 and '77... I still have the discs, and they're still in great shape!
AT40 went away in the '80s when 'KAP became talkradio WTKZ (it's a sports station now), and I wouldn't hear it again until last year when I discovered the '70s shows were being digitally remastered and airing on satellite radio.

For me, it was a rather odd circumstance, as my exposure to AT40 was actually through the AT40 Flashback repeats.
I'd listened to Rick Dees starting the last week of March 1997, when "Lovefool" by the Cardigans was #1. However, thanks to the Internet, I ended up finding out about WMMX rerunning the AT40 Flashback repeats... first show I heard through that was a March 1986 show, which I heard in 2006; #1 that week was "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister. Since then, I've been hooked, both to the classic AT40 shows as well as AT20, which I eventually ended up listening to.

I was first introduced to AT40 in the summer of 1982 by my friend, Sean. The number one song was "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor.
Ironically, in 2000, I learned that this same friend, who I hadn't seen in a long time, was on the first season of, get ready for this, Survivor! (a show that I would follow as closely as I did AT40).

The first time was in summer 2000 for me, but the first full show I listened to was the 11/11/00 show. The few weeks before that I just missed out on the first couple of songs. I then took a break after 2000 until late 2001 and then listened until the end of 2002, when I stopped. (I lost track because it moved days, with Rick Dees airing on Saturday.) Eventually it was taken off my station in 2003-04 and moved to a newer pop station, which still airs it today.

You know Dr. Sean? Wow! I've seen every season of "Survivor" (too many to remember everybody that appeared over the years). Aplogize for veering off-subject there.

Dr. Sean actually does a few self-help segments on my local news show. No news on what happened to the Superpole, though.

The first time that I can recall listening to AT40 was back in the Fall of 1978 when "Hot Child In The City" was heading towards #1. I also remember listening to the Top 50 of 1979 as well.
