I wanted to tell all "AT40" fans about a program that is similar to it-It's called "National Countdown Show"-Every week, host Al Gross counts down the 40 biggest hits from a given year during the 50's & 60's-The information comes directly from the vintage charts of "Cash Box",which was "Billboard's" competition-You can hear "NCS" every Saturday at 10 AM ET,9 Central Time-The station is WQMA in Marks,MS-Just go to q1520radio.com.

The problem with that station is that the sound is horrible , played in 32 kbps ! To receive it with a better quality needs to buy Mp3 Pro software, according to the station ( i have trried without succes ) . You'd better listen to the Cashbox Top 40 in good stereo ( 96 kbps ) on the Ultimate Oldies Countdown website where two charts are posted quite often : www.ultimateoldiesradio.com/index.cfm

The Oldies Collection on Live 365.com (which is my station) airs The Ultimate Oldies Countdown every Sunday at 9AM (EST). Each week for three hours Bob Mathers counts down the top 40 songs from a week in chart history (much like AT40), but our years range from 1955-1975. Plus during commercial breaks we feature additional songs that fell off or entered the chart for that week, so we feaure about 50 plus songs for the time period. The show is also replayed between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. Here is a schedule of upcoming shows for the month of March. 3/1/09 -- Top 40 from 3/3/1973 3/8/09 -- Top 40 from 3/9/1963 3/15/09 -- Top 40 from 3/18/1972 3/22/09 -- Top 40 from 3/25/1967 3/29/09 -- Top 40 from 3/29/1959 (50th. Chart Anniversary) www.live365.com/stations/joepowww.myspace.com/oldies_collection

The problem with that station is that the sound is horrible , played in 32 kbps ! Hi, Actually this is not correct. WQMA has two streams. One is a 64k stream. If you are using the mp3PRO addon, it produces a sound similar to 128k (according to the company that licenses the technology). Sounds a lot better to me than most of the Windows Media streams I hear from other stations. Perhaps it varies by country (?), but here in the USA, JetAudio fully uses mp3PRO technology and it is free. There is also a decoder provided for Winamp if I remember right. Also free.

Depending on who you talk to, Mp3pro is a dead and/or dying technology for streaming. Mp3 is the standard, with 128kbps being the minimum for anyone wanting quality. I'm running a small internet streaming station myself and after surfing around a few sites, that's the consensus that it seemed to come to. Mp3 pro isn't as common as you might think. Winamp (which is all I use) does have a plug in (unless it still supports it, I lost track) to use, but you're out of luck with windows media. still, this is not to say the format isn't ok. That's very subjective. You can download the free winamp plug in, or a free player here: www.mp3prozone.com/download.htmby the way, how do you grab the ultimate oldies countdown off their site? is it the real audio file stream? the wav link doesn't seem to work...and i'd probably have to cut it up to cover the breaks anyway. I'm running some older syndicated programming (non AT40) that I''ve collected over the years in radio, and my weekly 1/2 hr show "cheeze pleeze" and music of course on my stream...

The Ultiamte Oldies Countdown shows were downloaded from emails sent to me and a few other authorized stations in quarter hour segments. If have listened to the shows carefully they are from 2008. The shows are no longer produced, and we are running last years shows.
