XM IS GETTING WORSE, WHAT A SHAME!! I HAVE BEEN AN XM PRESCRIBER FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS AND THOUGH I KNOW WHEN COLLECTING AT40 THE BEST IS THE ORIGINALS, IT IS A WAY TO ADD TO THE COLLECTION UNTIL YOU CAN REPLACE WITH ORIGINAL SHOWS DOWN THE ROAD, I RECORDED TODAYS 70'S SHOW AND THEY EVEN MANAGED TO CHOP OFF THE END WHERE IT TELLS THE CHART DATE, THIS DOES NOT EVEN MAKE SENSE, WHEN YOU GO ON TO XM SCHEDULING THEY ARE WAY OFF WITH THE ALOTTED TIME SLOT, I USED TO WORK PART TIME IN RADIO, AND DO YOU THINK WE COULD BE THAT SLACK, NOT A CHANCE!!THE ONLY REASON THAT I GOT XM IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS BECAUSE OF CASEY. DOESN'T ANYONE AT THE HEAD OF THIS WEBSITE HAVE CONNECTIONS TO STOP THE XM EDITS, EVEN CONTACT CASEY HIMSELF! HE ALSO HAS PUT ALOT OF TIME INTO THESE SHOWS,IF NOTHING ELSE XM OWES IT TO HIM, I AM SURE HE WOULD NOT BE IMPRESSED.....ANYONE WANTING TO FORWARD THIS TO UPPER AUTHORITIES PLEASE DO, THERE IS NOT ALOT OF GOOD THINGS GOING ON IN THIS WORLD RIGHT NOW, AND THESE SHOWS ARE A GREAT WAY OF REMEMBERING THE PAST WHICH HAD ALOT OF GREAT MEMORIES WHICH IS WHY THE SHOWS ARE SO GREAT!!LETS ALL NOT GIVE UP ON THIS!!!!!THANKS.......bcody_19@yahoo.com

XM has no business running the 70's shows because of the massive editing they do-When John Clay was program director of the 70's channel, you didn't have these problems-Have you read Rob Durkee's post on this same subject?-He's just as upset as you are.

Best hope is that whichever buys SIRIUS/XM gets rid of whomever edits the '70s AT40 shows (assuming new ownership keeps AT40) and hopefully we won't have to put up with these constant edits.

I hope Jon Zellner gets the job he's qualified for, which as far as I can tell is feeding monkeys in a zoo. He's certainly not a good program director. (Though which program director have you ever known who wasn't a complete moron?)
I personally wish they would cancel the program altogether. I put up with the Premiere radio editions, because I know terrestrial radio has time constraints, but there is no excuse for SXM doing what they do. I don't even want to listen to their butchered edits. I say cancel AT40 the 70s on SXM altogether until someone can successfully remove Zellner and his lackey's head from their rear orifices.

If XM-Sirius were to go out of business, perhaps Premiere would consider airing the four-hour countdowns from the late 70's.

Don't get me wrong. I do like satellite radio, was a big fan of XM radio in its earlier years. Things started going downhill when Jon Zellner was hired to serve as head of music programming and the idea of making XM more like terrestrial radio came forth. It's almost as if Zellner's appointment was an effort to destroy XM from within and make it ready for takeover by rival, Sirius. When I heard that Mel had been Zellner's boss at one time, this idea was strengthened in my mind.
Satellite radio was a real good concept when the idea of being the best was still ingrained in the philosophy of XM (and probably Sirius as well). I strongly supported the decision of XM to bring AT40 on its 70s and 80s stations in 2006 and still think that AT40 belongs on satellite radio. But everyone listening to AT40 on Sirius XM deserves the best possible product . But the fact that Sirius XM is cutting jingles and other parts of the show makes their broadcasts inferior to those being played on terrestrial radio. This is unacceptable since people are paying for the service. Zellner and Mel should be trying to improve not worsen their service and their doing so makes them unfit to manage the only satellite radio service in existence in the US.
Therefore the problem is not satellite radio but the people (Mel and Zellner) who fought for the merger and then ruined Sirius XM. It is becoming more and more clear that the merger was not an attempt to improve satellite radio but as a way to remove the competition that caused both services to strive to improve themselves. Unless a change for the better in the presentation of AT40 on Sirius XM can be made, I do support the idea of the Sirius XM going bankrupt only as a way of getting rid of Mel and Zellner but hope that they will be replaced by someone who can return XM and Sirius to the days when they were the best option for music possible.

Your observations are right on the money,caseyfan-John Clay should be rehired to run the 70's channel-He did a lot to promote the classic airings of "AT40" on XM.

The return of John Clay would be the best thing that could happen to 70s on 7. When he was PD, AT40 was broadcast the way it was originally.
Apparently, Zellner didn't like him so he was "laid off". Would have been best to "lay off" Zellner and give John Clay the job of VP of Music Programming.

I've written to XM before. Here is the email I sent this week:
You can count me as a DISSATISFIED subscriber for the past few months.
The number one reason I signed up for XM Radio was to listen to American Top 40 again.
The 1980 version of the show is perfect.
I would like to thank the people running the 80's on 8 channel.
However the 70's on 7 channel is ruining American Top 40 for me.
WHY ARE YOU EDITING THE SHOW AT ALL?
You are wasting your money paying someone to edit the show every week.
My local radio station plays AT40 every Sunday morning.
Their show sounds better (even with commercials) than what you are playing.
By cutting out almost all of the themes and most of the teasers that Casey tells, this is NOT THE SHOW I remember back in Junior High and High School.
I am considering cancelling my subscription if this doesn't change.
You have sent me emails asking me to renew my current subscription. Why should I??
Why pay to hear your shortened show when I can get the full show for free??
I've emailed you before, never got a reply and you must not care about your customers at all.

Now only if they would take my email seriously and stop editing American Top 40.

XM needs to fire Jon Zellner & rehire John Clay-At least Clay cared about the "AT40" broadcasts from the 70's.

Don't get me wrong. I do like satellite radio, was a big fan of XM radio in its earlier years. Things started going downhill when Jon Zellner was hired to serve as head of music programming and the idea of making XM more like terrestrial radio came forth. No, things started to go down hill for XM back years ago (2003) when they let a vocal minority dictate the direction of the entire service. That small minority cried long and loud enough to get Kiss FM from LA kicked off the air, and replaced with what was for years a jukebox playing the songs. Keeping in mind of course, it was still a clearchannel owned and operated station. It isn't like XM got control of it when this switch happened. This minority wanted nothing, not one shred of anything resembling terrestrial radio. No talking, no dj's, no commercials (sorry folks, but had XM continued to air a couple minutes of commercials an hour on some of their channels, we might not be in this boat now), no nothing. That's what happened. And this is where we are now. I find it funny though to see now over 5 years later, many people having come to realize the Kiss move was stupid and WANTED the LA radio station back, and also I have seen a lot of people saying now they would be ok with a couple minutes of commercials an hour if it meant preserving satellite radio. All these same hotheads needed to look into the future before they went on their rants years ago, I KNEW this day was coming, and it didn't have to. It never had to be right on the verge of bankruptcy. Essentially these people wanted the equivalent of an mp3 player with sports channels, only problem is you pay the monthly fee and then you have no option is the exact songs played. You may like or dislike them. I knew this idea was destined to fail.

To clear up any misunderstanding on my part, the XM that I liked was what existed in its earliest years (before 2003). The commercials they had at the time were not that bad at all and there were never even half as many as were on terrestrial.
That "No DJ" group that wanted nothing more than an ipod type satellite service was not happy about the decision to bring AT40 back to XM in 2006 and I remember Rick Stacy saying something about them whinning and complaining about the decision just after it was announced. The glory days of the "No DJ" group were mainly 2003-2006.

It is very disappointing to see the responses people are getting via email these days from XM.
John Clay always promptly replied to every email and he actually listened to our concerns. I don't know of any business that becomes more successful when it stops listening to its clients.
I'm hoping that as XM/Sirius limps towards bankruptcy, they'll get purchased by someone who understands their listener base..otherwise, this going to continue to just get uglier and uglier!

I know several entertainment entities who while they may care about their viewers/fans money also look at those same people with contempt and the mentality oh "ok, how can we charge this amount of money while giving just the bare minimum we have to in order to justify the cost" or "if we cut this back, and raise the price, will it affect us THAT much."
