I think the day I Can't Go For That knocked Physical out of the #1 spot should be declared a national holiday.

To add to that, the days when "Physical", "You Light Up My Life", "Never Been To Me", and mga707's favorite "Once You Understand " all fell out of the Top 40 should also be declared National Holidays as well.

Yet Foreigner would get a little redemption 3 years later with " I Want To Know What Love Is". Olivia would not hit #1 again.

^Plus, they already had redemption on the R&R chart as they hit #1 there - and stayed there for six weeks, whereas it would have only been two or three weeks at the most if not for the lyrical content of "Physical", which caused some radio stations not to play it (as much, anyway). They likely would have at least made an appearance at #1 regardless.

One line in particular was just too easy...

I saw on Hervard's Critique post about Rod Stewart's "Young Turks" basically being a carbon copy for "Tonight I'm Yours". Add another song to the list-"Blinding Lights" by The Weeknd. I heard that song while scrolling through radio stations in my car today.

Up to now, I was always thinking of "Take On Me" by A-ha as the song that "Blinding Lights" (which, BTW, is still on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart in its 58th week) sounded like, but those two definitely sound close as well. Either way, that song is definitely a throwback to the 1980s!

One other R&R remption for a Billboard #1 song could be "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" by Freddy Fender, even though it made #1 on Billboard/AT40, this song almost made the top 15 reaches of R&R! Maybe some radio stations never cared for Freddy's Tex-Mex sound and/or Spanglish lyrics ("Before the Next Teardrop Falls" has the second verse sung in Spanish).

The song actually peaked at #13 on R&R - possibly the lowest peaking song there for a Billboard #1 (as two other songs, "Love Machine" and "Mickey", both peaked at #11.

Pretty much everything post-1991 doesn't count.

I have to post something today since this is the 10 year anniversary of when I joined this group. I am the second person in the last few days to reach that milestone with matt having done so the other day. Anyway, the 90s if Soundscan had started in say the 50s, has to be the decade with the most divergence between the Hot 100 and airplay based CHR charts. It has gotten back a lot closer to what it was in the 70s and 80s nowadays with the Hot 100 reflecting more of what stations are playing.

BTW, with this post, we have a rarity - a page in the "Chart Critiques" thread without a single critique on it! (Well, until someone deletes some of their posts, anyway).
