Ah... memories from Halloween 1982.
However, I was surprised to hear Honeymoon Suite's "Feel It Again" on AT40 from the spring of 1986. Just goes to show that many Canadian bands from that decade - including Rush - rarely appear on AT40. They were probably bigger in Canada, though. But I already knew that "New World Man" appeared on AT40 for some time now (not way back in 1982, though).
However, Rush did have a top 10 hit with "Closer To The Heart", if I recall.
I still have yet to hear a band or singer from Newfoundland appear on AT40 (and the closest we had were Anne Murray and Sarah McLachlan, who are both from Nova Scotia).
And I do remember "Take Off" quite well. I loved that song way back in the summer of 1982. I rarely hear it nowadays.
Bob & Doug McKenzie also had a Christmas single during the height of their popularity - their rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas is heard more on Canadian radio during Christmas than "Take Off" is played any time of the year!

However, Rush did have a top 10 hit with "Closer To The Heart", if I recall. That one hit the Hot 100 twice (in studio and live versions), but missed AT40. The closest Rush came to another Top 40 hit here in the states was "Tom Sawyer" (#44).

The main title theme from Star Wars (Top 10 hit). I was surprised that "Empire Strikes Back" was a Top 40 hit in 1980. My local station didn't have that on their play list.

Never saw this thread until now. Interesting to see some former frequent posters who have disappeared.

AT40/music fans would never forget in the Shadoe era when the controversial rap songs "Me So H-", "Humpty Dance", "Mind Playing Tricks on Me", and Whitney Houston's "The Star Spangled Banner" made Shadoe/AT40 even if they grew up around 1989-1991.

I guess "Humpty" is the only one of those songs to hit Radio and Records as well. I would also throw in "Banned In The USA", "We Are All In The Same Gang", "You Can't Play With My Yo-Yo", and what the heck..."Pop Goes The Weasel". Also "Gett Off" and "You Could Be Mine". Many people would be surprised if they heard any of those songs that they were on the same countdowns as say "Rush Rush" or "Listen To Your Heart".

Another one would be "You Be Illin" by Run DMC. I was never more shocked that it hit AT 40 when I started listening to those shows years later.
