On this week's Supersized 1974 only two of #31-40 were bulleted. Was there ever a ten song stretch with more blanks? On 6/23/73, there were no bulleted songs in the Top 40 (the highest bullet was at #51). Of course, that was during a four week stretch where Billboard drastically reduced the number of bullets awarded, so it's probably not fair to include any of those weeks as an answer to your question. 🙂

Also starred in the 1979 adaptation of Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot, which was effectively scary for a TV-movie at that time.

Could we even add Primate Radio Gods to this list? Yes, on their lone big hit Primitive Radio Gods was just Chris O'Connor.

Which is probably why CT40 and WT40 always did two parts. Another reason for those two shows breaking up the year-end countdown into two parts was by necessity. They were based on the R&R charts, and R&R always skipped two weeks for the holidays (there would be one week with no issue published at all, and another week with an abbreviated issue that had news but no charts).

Thanks. Did Casey's "AT40 (Hot AC)" start at the same time as his AT40 (CHR), 3/28/98, and did it end when his CHR countdown ended (1/3/04?) Casey's Hot AC show was just a Top 20 (so, AT20), and it ran from 3/28/98 until 7/4/09 (same timeframe as his AC show).

A few weeks ago on AT40, “Barbie World” hit #1 and Ryan did a story on how it was the shortest #1 ever (I foget the length but it was under 2 minutes) and how Nicki Minaj beat Bazzi’s record. Shorter than "Stay"s one minute 36 seconds? Wiki still has "Stay" as the shortest: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stay_(Maurice_Williams_song)"Barbie World" is 1:49, so longer than "Stay" but still the shortest in AT40 history.

Not butchered, but related...Casey coming in very early - IMO way too early - on a fade. I just heard him do that on Undercover Angel the week it hit #1. Didn't seem fair. Guys, let the record have it's day in the sun. He did that once with "Invisible Touch" by Genesis, starting his outro right after the bridge... extremely awkward sounding.

I think I found one from June 1990. Children sing a piece of  "My Country Tis Of  Thee"  at the end of Slaughter's "Up All Night" while children sing along the chorus towards the end of Richard Marx's "Children Of The Night". I suppose if we want to get technical, I believe AT40 always played the single edit of "Up All Night" so the children in that song weren't actually heard on the show.

That's actually an interesting question, I'd like to know as well. (Like at some point, did they begin receiving promo copies from record labels like radio stations do?)

The Chicago 19 one may need an asterisk... The hit version of "What Kind of Man Would I Be?" was a remix, and was considered a "new" single from their Greatest Hits album, even though the original version appeared on 19.

October 2023 will mark the 40th. Anniversary of the launch of the AT40 rival Rick Dees Weekly Top 40. This show was a revamping of the old 1979-1982 Weekly Top 40 radio show hosted by Mark Elliott (occassional 1977-1979 and 1982 AT40 guest host and 1989-1993 Casey's Top 40 guest host. Aside from the similar names, I don't think the Rick Dees show had any connection to the earlier Mark Elliott countdown (which was actually the Weekly Top 30). Would be nice if the earliest Dees countdowns would show up, you'd think he himself would have copies to remaster and air.

I don't remember the artist's name, but there was another artist Casey mentioned who saw music as colors. I heard the show several months ago but not sure which show it was (might have been Casey's Top 40). Maybe Billy Joel, or John Frusciante of Red Hot Chili Peppers? I looked synesthesia in Wikipedia and they're about the only musicians listed with it whom Casey would have talked of then. There's also the male half of Groove Theory (Casey talked about it both on a regular show and during the 1996 yearender).

There was also AT40's "Top 40 Hits of the 1980s So Far" on July 4, 1987. I think it's been calculated elsewhere that (due to faster chart turnover) only one or two songs past that point would've made it into the Top 40 had they done an update at decade's end.

Regarding the 2006 year-end rankings, Panic did have more airplay than the Rejects (by a decent margin) at pop radio during the chart year. I don't have the Mediabase numbers (which is what AT40 used), but the comparable BDS year-end had Panic at #9 with about 134,000 plays vs. Rejects at #16 with about 112,000 plays.

In 1992, Linear's song "T.L.C." was in the Top 40 at the same time as two hits by the group TLC ("Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg" and "Baby-Baby-Baby").
