I forgot to post this, but a few weeks ago Howard Stern was talking about Rick Dees. Apparently the two had a nice conversation, and Howard said he feels sorry that he was sorry about saying mean things about Rick in the past. Apparently Rick was very complementary of the Stern show and listens often. Howard also mentioned that Rick gave him a $100 Starbucks gift card -- and he didn't have the heart to tell Rick that he has become a Dunkin Donuts guy.

I've been meaning to post on this for probably a year now, but has anyone else hda issues with Rick's iPhone app? I used to listen to the countdown through that, but it always crashes lately. I don't have the will-power to hunt for the show on Tune-In and listen at an exact time.

Looks like this show didn't last much longer than a year. No surprise there. I still remember when the press releases were basically saying Perez Hilton would take on Seacrest and how AT40 would be left in the dust.

Many years ago now. The staff wanted to keep them, but an out-of-touch mucky-muck thought that the credits didn't sound "local enough", so they were dropped back in 2005 or 2006.

Ever since I subscribed to SiriusXM, I couldn't help but notice that many of their shows cite Billboard data, if not use the chart outright. For instance, Lance Bass' Pop2Kountdown is based entirely off the Billboard Hot 100. Howard Stern does his parody Top 5 countdown of the Hot 100 quite often. And I frequently hear Billboard stats elsewhere.
While iHeart certainly has their reasons to not use Billboard, it doesn't seem like expense could or should be one of them in regards to AT40 and other shows they may have. While that may have been true in the early 1990s, something tells me that may not be the case today. In my mind, hearing "Billboard" lends some credibility as opposed to custom charts that are potentially subject to more whims.

Great read! I occasionally listen to Rusty Humphries on the radio and can imagine that Rusty and Casey wouldn't have much in common when it comes to politics -- neither do I. But that's just politics - Casey was such a good-hearted kind person and it reminds me that good people can have different ideas for how to tackle problems and that political leanings don't define a person.
It seems that a lot of people are "walking on egg shells" around Jean...

Also does anyone know how Shadoe explains or mentions changing to the new chart causing songs to come back or making big moves or drops in the 1st week using the airplay chart on the 12/1/91 show. . The fact that it starts using a different chart is ignored, and no movers or droppers were announced.

It's established that Premiere owns the shows and the rights to them. Period. There is some confusion about this, so I checked with my contact at Premiere Networks. Premiere owns the name "American Top 40" as well as all Casey and Ryan AT40 shows. Premiere essentially controls how the name "American Top 40" is used. Premiere does not, however, have ownership over the Shadoe AT40 nor the CT40 shows. Shannon Lynn also posted this on Facebook 30 minutes ago: "Just to clarify for all, Premiere is not the rights holder for AT40 with Shadoe Stevens."

Unless something has changed in the past couple months, I don't believe that Premiere /iHeart has ownership of the Shadoe Stevens shows. This may be Shadoe himself and another distributor capitalizing on the popularity of AT40 and '90s nostalgia. I would be extremely surprised if this was being done by iHeart.

Great interview. Around 26:00 they are talking about how Mike was actually set to take over Casey's shows, but Jean put the kibosh on that...!

Why is the Y2K special "the worst"? I don't know if there is a Casey show that I would call "bad" but this one does have the most questionable practices in it. I remember lots of intro bed looping, lack of jingles, and they didn't play 40 songs despite the tagline being "The 40 Days That Changed Music".

From what little I've heard I think what was about Casey is fine. They don't seem to go overboard which is what he would have wanted. On the other hand, the indepth interview with the non musical Jenner sisters (including inane questions about seating arrangements at the Kanye West-Kim Krapdashian wedding) is a prime example of AT40 trying too hard to wedge in junk better left on E! (Rant over.) THIS. I still do occasionally tune in to AT40 and to be fair, they've been doing a better job of including some chart trivia and movement lately. However, I heard that bit with the Kardashians. I actually turned the radio off at the Kardashian-whatever interview. I don't listen to a show that is supposed to be about the music for reality TV gossip. 15 years ago I never thought I would say I like the WT40 over AT40 -- but I nowadays I do because Rick Dees keeps the focus on the music.
