One of the biggest droppers was in the Fall of 1982 (ironically the same year as Heart Attack's chart run). Air Supply's "Even the Nights Are Better" fell totally out of the Top 40 from #6.
I remember that Casey mentioned on one of the shows that "White Christmas" fell off the entire Top 100 (whatever the chart was called at the time) from #1 but that was due to the seasonal nature of the song. Plus this was before AT40 began in July 1970.

I don't know if XM's experience would fit in here but they did air American Top 40 shows once or twice every day on XM 8 for 3 months Dec 2002-Feb 2003. Granted, some were repeats, but even so, by the end of Feb 2003, a majority of listeners were tired of AT40 and they were the ones who provided the ammunition needed by then 80s PD, Bruce Kelly, to "justify" taking American Top 40 off, although it was later revealed that XM only had the rights to AT40 for those 3 months as part of their takeover of the Flashback series, after Premiere ended it in late 2002.
XM apparently learned its lesson and, with the exception of a two day marathon at the beginning and after a short time of having two different shows on each channel each week, both XM 7 and XM 8 settled on the idea of one AT40 show played twice a week on each channel. From what I have heard on the various discussion boards, fans are much happier with this than what happened in 2002-2003.
In March 2008, there was some talk of broadcasting another AT40 marathon on XM 2 and the marathon was actually scheduled on the program list for a short time. After a few days, the marathon was taken off the schedule and I emailed John Clay, 70s PD to ask why. He said, then, that they were working on getting the marathon rescheduled but I have heard nothing else about it since then.

On several first shows of July throughout the years, Casey would open by noting this anniversary, specifically mentioning "American Top 40" in the years he was with the show. (1970-Aug 1988 and Mar 1998-Jan 2004). During the Casey's Top 40 years( Jan 1989-Feb 1998), Casey would refer to the anniversary of "counting down the hits" without naming either show
Among these anniversary notifications, 1999 stands out in my opinion. Casey noted the beginning of the 30th year of AT40 by playing the first minute or two of the first show in 1970 and afterwards saying "that's the way it sounded then and this is the way it sounds today" followed by the 1999 version of the AT40 intro. Another is the CT40 show for this week in 1990. Casey announced then that "i'm 21"-stating that this was the beginning of his 21st year of counting down the hits.
It's going to be interesting to hear how Ryan celebrates the anniversary of American Top 40 for this year (the beginning of the 39th year of counting down the hits or the 38th anniversary of American Top 40)

No, the Triathlon was the last special that Casey hosted. Newcomers was broadcast on the Memorial Day Weekend in 1988, Triathlon was broadcast the 4th of July weekend 1988 and Casey's last AT40 show for almost 10 years was Aug 6, 1988.

Just checked--Tulsa changed the dates from last weeks shows to "TBA" so we'll probably not find out until tomorrow at the earliest.
Isn't it great that we have these shows available!!! For several years we didn't

I've thought more about what I posted and better understand the point that was made by Charlypp. The idea is that these shows have been made available and Casey has worked hard throughout the 38 years he's been "counting down the hits" to ensure that they are available for a new generation to hear and for long time fans to enjoy once again. We should keep this in mind and not over-exaggerate minor problems with the show or speculate about the future of the show.

We can talk all we want concerning which show AT40: The 70s, AT40: The 80s or XM is going to broadcast in the upcoming week but the decision is made either by XM and/or Premiere (or someone else). In any case, the decision on what to broadcast is not made here or on any open forum that I know of. I don't know who to contact regarding the terrestrial version but the PDs of the XM channels can be reached by going to the 70s or 80s pages on www.xmradio.com and following directions there on how to contact the station in question. If there is a certain year you want to hear, you'd have a better chance in letting them know by going there.

XM aired the Top 50 of the 1970s as the last show of the August 2006 Marathon.

Charlie,
I think you got your signals crossed somehow. From what I see, most people on this board are fans of Casey and of the years he hosted American Top 40 as well as American Top 20 and American Top 10 which he still hosts. Many of us also like the AT40 shows hosted by Shadoe Stevens and Casey's Top 40 and its AC and HAC versions.

Before leaving to celebrate Father's Day, I heard the beginning of the Weekly Top 40 and noticed that Rick omitted songs by Dr. Dre and Green Jelly. I wish the company that produced the shows wouldn't have done that but, instead, sent instructions to the stations broadcasting the show, how they could have done so, much like the way AT40 did in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Even though I don't particularly like Dr. Dre, I feel that a countdown show should play all songs on the portion of the chart they claim to represent. That's why i prefer Casey's Top 40. I have the copy of Casey's Top 40 for the same week as the Weekly Top 40 (6/12/93) and am going back to listen to see how Casey handled those songs that Rick announced the title to but did not play. I recorded the Weekly Top 40 and, if those songs are played on CT40 that week, I will dub them into the MP3 of the Weekly Top 40 just so I'll have a WT40 show for that week with all songs that Rick announced, played as well.
Note: The Weekly Top 40 continued to do this for several years afterward. I have a cassette copy of the Weekly Top 40 2000 Year End Countdown and I remember Rick announcing the title of Dr. Dre's song "Forgot About Dre" at some point between #91-#98 but not playing it.

And if you miss 6/18/77 on AT40: The 70s this weekend, the same show will be on XM the following weekend.

Seems like this question has been answered. 90s began playing the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 today. Having done this, I can see no reason for them to broadcast CT40 since both used the same chart-Radio and Records. I will shut up about this and listen to Rick Dees on XM 80s and XM90s and my collection of CT40s.
Oh, well, maybe terrestrial will broadcast CT40 at some point in the future-at least, I can hope that they will.
