Great list of songs! Especially love the Nik Kershaw hit. It would see a "revival" in fall 1989 on WLOL (Top 40 station in the Twin Cities that went off the air in February 1991). They and KDWB were my top stations back in the day (KDWB carried AT40 then and still does today). Nik Kershaw was probably a little naive at the beginning of his career: "I didn´t know what I was getting myself into," he admitted in an interview with the British Express. "I just wanted to get on stage, play my music, and suddenly I was public property." He was also not happy with his performance on stage: "I wasn´t a good dancer, the idea that I was being filmed was a horror." But publicity was just one of the problems for Nik Kershaw, drugs were another. "I went on tour with Elton John in the 80s. And suddenly there were drugs everywhere." Drugs are probably no longer an issue for Elton John, but the young Nik Kershaw was completely overwhelmed by the tour entourage at the time: "I wanted to speak to him in his dressing room, just went in and they threw a sushi plate at my head, the conditions there were completely insane." Nik Kershaw has another problem, which he probably shares with many stars of the 80s: "I tried to avoid these 80s shows for a long time. Most of the artists from that period are still active and writing songs. Then you go to an event like that and want to play the new songs, but the audience and journalists completely reduce you to that time: ´where´s your wild hair´, ´what was it like at Live Aid´." However, Nik Kershaw has since realized that he always has people in the audience at the 80s shows who like his new stuff.

^^ In addition to The Clash and U2 having incredible tunes that failed to make AT40 from the 4/23/83 chart, I would be game to feature these 12 tunes here. Just go ahead and delete the recap and the long distance dedications to squeeze these tunes in this special broadcast : * "Love My Way" by The Psychadeic Furs (at its #44 peak) www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RQdBPsFum0* "Mexican Radio" by Wall Of Voodoo (at #60, would peak at #58) www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyCEexG9xjw* "Sing Me Away" by Night Ranger (at #61, would peak at #54) www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzIc3Y2ZEVU* "Wind Him Up" by Saga (at #70, would peak at #64) www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFWTHaCkqP8* "Love's Got A Line On You" by Scandal (at #69, would peak at #59) www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9zaHWQSyA8* "I Eat Cannibals" by Toto Coelo (at #74, would peak at #66) www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rzB9-Wd67A* "The Fanatic" by Felony (peaked at #42, this week at #75) www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwMuc9XlhKs* "Why Me" by Planet P ((at #76, would peak at #64) www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuG4TCRZvd0* "Cool Places" by Sparks & Jane Wiedlin (at #78 would peak at #49) www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuG4TCRZvd0* "I Melt With You" by Modern English (peaked at #78, at #91 this week) www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvEgcjbhbx4* "Desperate But Not Serious" by Adam Ant (peaked at #66, at #97 this week) www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtA56Jq8L5g* "Atomic Dog" by George Clinton (bubbling under at its peak of #101) www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyAEUWJlk1QCasey could have had American Top 80 during this time and there still would have been great tunes not making the countdown...

It´s time now for an American Top 40 extra - from 4/23/1983: It´s a song that didn´t make the Top 40, but was suggested by 80sat40fan on at40.fgproboards.com, part of the American Top 40: The 80s series: Here´s ... with ... .
