I agree with giannirubino's choice of Donna Summer's "MacArthur Park".
For pre-AT40 hits, there's the ending to The Beatles' "Hello Goodbye", The Doors' "Touch Me" ("Stronger than dirt"), and The Fifth Dimension's "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In".
And then there's Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" and Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do".

A few more… *Temptation’s “Glasshouse” ends with glass breaking *Meri Wilson’s “Telephone Man” ends with a telephone ringing *Paul McCartney’s “Junior’s Farm” ends with Paul exhaling *Cat Stevens’ “Remember The Days Of The Old Schoolyard” ends with the sound of children playing

There's quite a few memorable ones, but to start, I'll throw a couple of late 80s ones out there:
"Pop Goes The World" (Men Without Hats, 1988) "Batdance" (Prince, 1989)

Miss You Much - Janet Jackson (Music stops, followed by Janet saying "That's the end?")
Thriller - Michael Jackson (Vincent Price's evil laughing)

I always liked songs that Casey replied to in the outro. For example, when "Bad" by Michael Jackson was on the show I remember one time as the song ended with, "Who's Bad", Casey replied, "You are, Michael"!

From the first AT40 show--
Check Out Your Mind-The Impressions (not the usual fade like most of their hits)
Mississippi Queen-Mountain (the second Mississippi song on the countdown)
Plus ya gotta love the fact that two of the biggest acts of the rock era are back to back on the show--
The Long & Winding Road--The Beatles (at #8)
The Wonder Of You-Elvis Presley (#9).
Thanks, Billboard.

I've got two from Earth, Wind, and Fire "Can't Hide Love" 1976- I like the harmonizing towards the end of the track "After The Love Is Gone" 1979-usually a sax solo comes at the bridge of a song, but the sax solo comes at the end. On the "I Am" album, it actually bleeds into an uptempo track called "Let Your Feelings Show."

From this week´s countdown (8/27/83):
Frank Stallone - Far From Over
Both the intro and the outro are concise for me. And here´s a story about it from the summer of 1983: In the 70s and 80s every program on Ö3 had a signature tune. The Ö3 summer radio of the year 1983, at the same time the first phone-in broadcast of the station, had as its signature a compilation of the following video:
Take the first 15 seconds and the last 15 seconds of this video and you have a concise signature of the summer of 1983 on Ö3. By the way, Bayern 3 (Bavarian 3) also used the intro (but not the outro) for the "B3-Radio Report" with Günther Jauch a few years later.

Checking the AT40 charts on this date in history, I found five others with great/memorable endings. retrodaddy already named "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince, and that's a fantastic ending. Others for me include: - "Live & Let Die" by Paul McCartney & Wings... wonderful orchestration leading to a very long last note... maybe the best Bond theme ending?;
- "Could It Be Magic" by Barry Manilow... the orchestration fading out to leave nothing but the piano is wonderful;
- "Barracuda" by Heart... going from the long instrumental to a somewhat abrupt guitar ending is a nice twist;
- (qualified selection) "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago so long as it's played with "Getaway". The quick fade of the single is too abrupt but with many stations playing "Getaway" with it, the horns are a nice pick me up for the ending.

I thought that Faith No More's 1990 hit "Epic" had an interesting ending-a beautiful piano solo at the end of a rocker.

I Like It - DeBarge (El DeBarge's high note at the end) Also, he hits several high notes near the end of "Time Will Reveal" The Rain - Oran "Juice" Jones (The last 2 minutes when he's telling off this woman is a riot, especially toward the end: "This is my world, you're just a squirrel tryin' to get a nut!") That kiss-off message is easily the best part of that song! "I missed you too. I missed you so much I followed you today!", "Silly rabbit, tricks are made for kids don'tcha know that?" Start Me Up - The Rolling Stones ("You make a dead man come") Urm...

I can't believe that I didn't think of it till now: Late Summer / early Fall 1982. Moon Unit Zappa saying "Totally" at the end of Valley Girl, by father Frank Zappa.
