I think it all depends on the format. If you are a “hits” format like the article says or you have a seasonal/holiday theme then going deep is not going to do well. Personally I found Yacht Rock Radio dull as could be so I can’t imagine deep Yacht Rock.
That said however, the “decades” channels or ones like them I have no problem theoretically with them going a little deeper. I don’t mean every other song peaked 65 or lower on the Hot 100 deep but 2-4 songs an hour that may not necessarily be the same familiar tunes would be fine. Now I said theoretically. Maybe I’d hate this if I heard it happen.
