Charles "Chuck" Barksdale, bass vocalist for The Dells passed away May 15 at the age of 84. He was a founding member of the R & B vocal group and remained until the end with the deaths of John Carter in 2009 and Marvin Junior in 2013. In the early 90s, the group acted as consultants for Robert Townsend when he produced his movie "The Five Heartbeats". They also sang "A Heart Is A House For Love" for the movie, which peaked at #13 on the R&B charts in 1991. In 2004, The Dells were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. On the R&B charts, they reached the Top 10 ten times including the #1 songs "Stay In My Corner" and a newly recorded version of their 1956 Top 10 single "Oh, What A Night". Those two singles crossed over and peaked at #10 on the Hot 100 as well. Five additional hits reached the Top 40 among their 24 chart entries, including this great one from 1968 that peaked at #20 (#11 R&B) There Is - DellsObituary
