freakyflybry mentioned this in the thread on AT 40 acts hitting in different decades, but I think this bears having its own thread. According to Mediabase, there is an almost 100 percent chance that Billy Ray Cyrus will be hitting American Top 40 next week, if the remix is seen as the official song. To think that Billy Ray Cyrus who is currently at number one on the Hot 100 (along with Lil Nas X) would be anywhere near the Hot 100, let alone number 1, in 2019 is one of the more astonishing chart feats I thought I would ever see. Until yesterday. I opened up Mediabase to see if there were any new songs that were making their way on the chart. I saw an artist's name, actually yelled out, "wait what", checked again, and then listened to the song. And sure enough, yesterday at number 36 was the song, "Con Calma" that features the artist Snow. Snow. Like "Informer" and "Girl I've Been Hurt" Snow. It was the most added song as of yesterday on CHR, and today it currently stands at 33. Unless something crazy happens, Snow, who many see as a one-hit wonder or novelty artist, will have his third top 40 hit, and first in 26 years, in probably three weeks. We have to play hypothetical because we don't know how "Old Town Road" will ultimately be credited on American Top 40 (shades of "Coming Up" for me). But let's say the remix is the song that is the official AT 40 song, and "Con Calma" continues on the rocket it is on: whic, to you, seems more unlikely in 2019? Billy Ray Cyrus or Snow hitting the top 40? As crazy as the words are that I'm typing, for me it's a no brainer: for Snow to be relevant in 2019 is the most surreal things I've seen on the charts. I could see Cyrus maybe having a hit with one of his daughters, or being featured on a country song that caught fire (like what happened in this very scenario), but I never thought I would say "Snow" and "American Top 40" in the same sentence ever again. Pick any other artist from 1993 that hit the top 40. Any: Whitney Houston, Madonna, Peabo Bryson, Boykrazy, Joey Lawrence, SWV, Green Jelly, Tasmin Archer, whoever. If there were 234 different acts that hit the top 40 in 1993, and I had to pick the one that would hit in 2019 and I was given 233 guesses...I would lose. I really hopes this happens for both Snow and Cyrus. This is why I continue to love American Top 40 because of moments like this! I can't even put the absurdity into context, unless Walter Murphy and Rick Dees both hit the top 40 in 2002. Maybe Bertie Higgins and Vangelis lighting it up in 2008. To be honest, I don't think even those would have phased me as much as seeing Snow's name on the charts. Good for him. I hope the song continues on its climb. Who do you have in quite possibly the greatest "wait what" moment in AT 40 history: Billy Ray or Snow?

Dr.Demento played "Old Town Road" on his show last weekend-I thought it was quite good-The good doctor went on to say that it was the first novelty hit to reach # 1 in several years.

Another fun fact about "Old Town Road" is that it's 1:48 in length, which would make it the shortest song on AT40 in a long time (ever?) At least that's what Ryan said the last couple of weeks after playing it as a Breakout/On the Verge extra.

woolebull, Snow was definitely the least likely of the two to chart. As you said, Billy Ray would likely have a hit with his daughters or with another country song; in fact, he and Miley did hit the Top 40 in Billboard in 2008 with "Ready, Set, Don't Go". But these are just the latest in a string of recent chart oddities. For example, I was surprised that Panic at the Disco hit #1 on AT40 recently, after not having a major hit in over a decade. And Weezer had a minor hit with a cover of Toto's "Africa" (who knew that people were clamoring for a Toto cover in 2018?).
As to your trying to put this absurdity into context, Benny Bell and "Shaving Cream" come to mind.

Then it balloons to like 2:30

Guess I'm really out of it, or just too old, but I have no idea who 'Snow' is, or why he/she/they hitting the 'Hot 100' is such a shocker. I stayed pretty 'hip' to the charts until 2001 or so, but since then, no. So I'm guessing 'Snow' is someone (or some group) who came along after that time period. I do know who Billy Ray Cyrus is...

Snow hit number one on the hot 100 in 1993 for seven weeks with Informer. I think it went to #4 on CT and #12 on AT. It was by all accounts a smash but to think he is back after 26 years is truly mind blowing.

Not my 'cup of tea'. Never liked that style of 'reggae-rap'. Think I was listening more to Counting Crows--or Black Crowes--back then.

I think that adds to the intrigue: it is a song you might not remember. It was a big song, but it had no legs after it left the chart. It didn't have the "hate popularity" of say "Ice Ice Baby" or "Macarena", and it was part of a style that didn't give him much longevity as a pop artist. It was just a "right time, right moment" song. And somehow we are hitting it again 26 years later. We are having a "Shaving Cream" moment...twice!

That's funny--I remember "Informer" being everywhere for a few weeks there in the spring of '93. I thought it was catchy at first, but got tired of it after a month or so. "Girl I've Been Hurt" I don't remember hearing at all during it's release that same year, but it did show up on a 90's compilation CD that I got about 10 or so years after it was out. Yeah, Snow is definitely an artist from the past that you would never have expected to reappear in the Top 40 these days!

Honestly, it's SO much a word for word remake that it's not so mind-blowing that Snow would have to be credited or appear on it. "Daddy Yankee is equally enthralled with Darrin O'Brien aka Snow: "It was one of my favourite songs growing up, and to do this the right way I needed the guy to be on the record,”

I thought about that as well. The only difference I see is that Snow does change some of his part to be in sync with 2019 song. But there are definite similarities.

So whether Billboard or Radio and Records, it was a big deal in 1993.

Continuing the theme of this thread, I just became aware that the Baha Men have new song out. As in, "Who Let The Dogs Out?"
