The Great American Radio Show, 40 Years Ago

Forty years ago this weekend, on February 17, 1979, I began listening to a program called The Great American Radio Show on our local AOR station, WAAL. I heard a large number of album rock tunes for the first time on that station. It was informative, though the host was a bit arrogant. I believe I heard Blondie's "Heart of Glass" for the first time on Feb. 17 or 24, 1979. I heard The Police's "Roxanne" for the first time one week later.

I remember "the Great American Radio Show"-It was hosted by Mike Harrison who was an air personality on KMET-FM in Los Angeles-The program was syndicated by Westwood One-In the New York area,the program was heard first on WXLO (99X) & then WPIX.
