I vaguely remember this question being asked, but I can't find any evidence on the board that we have discussed it. Maybe I've just thought about it enough...anyway, how many different countries have been represented on American Top 40? I can name many of them, but I would like to know if we can compile as best that we can a definitive list of the different countries that have had artists hit American Top 40 (or Casey's Top 40)?
I'll get us started with just some random ones off my head:
United States Canada Mexico Brazil Guyana Barbados Jamaica England Scotland Wales Ireland France Germany Austria The Netherlands Norway Sweden Denmark Iceland Russia Poland Nigeria Israel Japan South Korea Spain Australia New Zealand Switzerland Italy Belgium
There's a start...what other countries have been represented on AT 40?

A few more that I have thought of:
Greece South Africa Cuba Colombia Northern Ireland Trinidad and Tobago
Also Haiti, if you include Wycleff Jean. He never hit as a solo artist but was a part of the trio The Fugees.

I thought you included Russia because of the guy from Deee-Lite, which other Russian artist had a top40 hit? I can't remember right now. Also, aren't England, Scotland, N. Ireland and Wales parts of the same country? (UK). But I understand why you decided to do it like this

And about the UK, Casey tended to treat its components as separate countries when announcing where artists were from, though one could just say "British" to put together England, Wales, and Scotland.

Yes on all accounts. Though to take out the "is he Russian or not aspect" with Zedd, you can use T.A.T.U. who hit the top 10 in 2002 with, "All the Things She Said. And taking a cue from Casey, I split up Great Britain.

Wyclef Jean DID hit as a lead artist - in 2007 with "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)". Gerardo, who hit in 1991 with two hits, is from Ecuador. Darude, who hit AT40 in 2001 with "Sandstorm" is from Finland. Jan Hammer, who hit #1 in 1985 with the theme from "Miami Vice" is Czech. More recently, Rita Ora, who has had several hits over the past few years, was born in Kosovo. Michael Cretu, the brainchild behind Enigma, is from Romania. The lead singer of Ta Mara and the Seen is from Morocco. Cheb Mami, who appeared on Sting's "Desert Rose", is from Algeria. Manu Dibango, who hit with "Soul Makossa", is from Cameroon. K'naan had a couple minor top 40 hits; he was born in Somalia. Rozalla, who hit with "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)", is from Zambia. Jyoti Mishra a.k.a. White Town, who hit with "Your Woman", was born in India. Kevin Lyttle, who hit with "Turn Me On", is from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. And while he became famous as part of the British band Queen, Freddie Mercury was born in Tanzania.
