While waiting at the pharmacy at Walmart this morning, I heard a song with a male singer, I bet it was from the mid 1960s. If pressed, I'd have to guess 1965-1966. The intro was amazingly similar to Gwen Stefani's "The Sweet Escape" intro, minus the overt & annoying "Wee-hoo's." There were background vocals, all male.
I could not hear any of the lyrics. The song was in the key of A, no key changes, and the ending (a repeat & fade of the last line of the chorus) was four beats of the A chord, and four beats of the G chord, over & over & over.
Same beat, same speed, same tempo as Gwen's song. Any ideas as to what it might be? I would ***guess*** that it must have been a big hit on SOME chart, or Walmart wouldn't be playing it, right? Walmart seems to play anything from 1955 forward, but, other than that, I can't say they favor a particular chart, except, I rarely hear rap there.
Thank you in advance.

Only tune I know of that is somewhat similar is the Monkees', "The Girl I Knew From Somewhere". The tempo is stepped up from Gwen's song.
