How 'bout the one week that LaGrange by Z. Z. Top spent at #33 on the AT40 made up chart for the week ending June 29, 1974. Not to mention Jake Holmes' "So Close" at whatever position AT40 put it in that one week in late '70.

I was hoping that "Where Do the Children Go" would chart much higher than 38. After the Msy 17-18 countdown, I didn't hear AT40 or look at the Billboard Hot 100 for a couple of months (I was age 25 and beginning to drift toward AC). I heard the song on the radio for about a month after May 1986, so I figured that it reached No. 25 on the chart. I also heard Dream Academy's "Love Parade" a lot and figured that that went top 20. However, the stations I was listening to were what would be termed Hot AC by the end of the decade.

Not to mention Emmett Rhodes' "Fresh As a Daisy" at whatever position AT40 put in in that one week in early '71. Never heard of that song... Nor had hardly anyone else, as it peaked at #54 in February of '71. However, one week around the time it was peaking the AT40 staff got erroneous information from someone at 'Billboard' and they played the song as number thirty-something. Can't remember the exact chart date, or what song should have been in 'Daisy's' place. I'm sure Pete had the full and accurate story, if he's following this.

"Fresh As A Daisy" by Emitt Rhodes was a great record and perhaps deserved to reach the Top 40. But it never did. And it never got played on AT40, even as a mistake. I believe you're thinking of "So Close" by Jake Holmes which received a one-time airing on AT40 in error in December 1970, due to a misstep in data transfer from Billboard.

Don't know how I mixed up the two songs. Corrected my first post. Yes, it was "So Close", not "Fresh As a Daisy". Thanks for correcting--the 'ol memory must be going!

"I Can't Stand The Rain" by Ann Peebles spent one week at #38. Her timing was off, unfortunately, as her only Top 40 hit peaked on December 22, 1973, the week of AT40's updated Christmas special. Another such case was Alice Cooper's "Clones" - spent it's only week in the 40 at #40 on 7/5/80, which of course was the week of the first Book of Records special. Always thought that song deserved better, and was ahead of it's time by a few years. Had it been released in 1983 or so, it probably peaks at a higher position.

'Alice' still occasionally plays it on his syndicated program, so he must think it's OK as well. I like it.
