Grammy-award winning songwriter and singer Kenny O'Dell passed away March 28 at the age of 73. Kenny made his biggest impact on the country charts, where he scored #1 hits courtesy of Loretta Lynn and the Judds. A couple of country chart toppers crossed over to the Top 40. Tanya Tucker #1 country hit "Lizzie And The Rainman" reached #37, and Charlie Rich reached #15 with the Grammy-award winning "Behind Closed Doors". On the pop charts, the Rose Garden had a #17 hit with Kenny's "Last Plane To London" in 1967. Kenny also had success on the country charts as a singer appearing twice in 1978. His biggest hit was the #9 "Let's Shake Hands And Come Out Lovin'" One of his first hits peaked at #37 in 1967 by Bobby Vee. Kenny's version also made the Top 40 that year, peaking at #38. R.I.P. to Kenny O'Dell.
Although the other version that charted at the same time as Kenny's in late 1967 was by Bobby Vee not Bobby Vinton.
