As announced on Tommy James' Facebook page, his longtime collaborator and producer Jim Wisner passed away March 13 at the age of 86. Jim started out in the jazz community, but eventually shifted to rock and roll writing hits for the Searchers and the Tymes. He also did production and arrangement work for artists who spanned the scope of the musical genre, ranging from Barbra Streisand to Iggy Pop. It was his lifelong partnership with Tommy James that became his calling card, beginning with "I Think We're Alone Now" which was recorded on Christmas Eve in 1966. Although you won't find Jim listed as an artist on the Billboard Hot 100, he did chart reaching #8 in 1961 with a boogie-woogie version of a classical piece. After failing to catch the interest of several major record labels, Jim released the song on his own Future Records label. He used a pseudonym fearing backlash from the jazz community.
