Many of us have radio shows in our archives that are tracked by song. This poses no problem when listening on CD or on the computer. But has anyone found a way around the annoying gaps or overlays that occur when listening to these shows on a portable device like an iPod or iPhone?

I only listen via iPod. Tracked songs have never had a gap for me. I mean, you might if Casey starts saying the first word of a sentence and that word cuts over midway through to the next segment you get that stutter, but as long as the gap wasn’t IN the track to begin with, it plays seamlessly.

Same here - it's seamless on my computer and iPods, but on my phone, I hear a 0.2-second gap in between tracks (shows tracked by song, not segment). There's a setting for gapless playback, which I had selected, but I still hear a tiny gap in between. I have the Pulsar player for my Android.
I later installed "Gapless Player", which you can manually set the gapless playback (or select it to automatically set). I chose a manual setting of 0.25 seconds, which is pretty close to a seamless transition between MP3 tracks. I used the AT40 3/1/1980 show to experiment with, as it's separated by song.
One of these days I'll get an iPhone. But there's music players that have a crossfade or gapless playback setting. I've had to install and play around with a few different ones that appear to have that feature. The "Gapless Player" so far is the one I've found that best takes care of that gap between tracks, making it sound almost like the segments weren't split in the first place.
Good luck!
