The Shuckatoom theme is by far the most popular theme in AT40's history. I find it very surprising that the Shuckatoom theme wasn't a hit record, since it was a very popular theme, and in some ways, it feels that the Shuckatoom theme took on a life on its own.

This is a message for Darryl Heine.
Dear Darryl:
I never said that I wished that the "Shuckatoom" theme was a hit record. All I said that I am surprised that the "Shuckatoom" theme wasn't a hit record, since the sound had a Disco feel, and it was a perfect fit for the Disco era.

I don't know if I agree with the statement that the "Shukatoom" theme was the most popular. The original "Moog synthesiser" open/close theme was around for 6 years before the Shukatoom theme was used.

True but Shuckatoom was used to open American Top 40 Flashback regareless of what year was highlighted. It still had its use in the early 80's but the close theme needed to be changed. The AT40 CCTC Fanfair that begins Shukatoom was still good, and JAM Creative Producations kept that more less when they created a new open jingles, and music beds in 1984.

Yea but around 1979 it kind of lost it and a for a closing theme it was good thing to do. It had an updated disco sound.

Where did the name "Shuckatoom" come from?

Would've been great if the trombone solo on 'Shuckatoom' was actually played by a woman!

Where did the name "Shuckatoom" come from? Just taking a guess here, but I just saw a comment on another site referring to a "shuck-a-toom" guitar sound such as those one would have heard in several funk/pop songs during the mid-70s. The "shuckatoom" vocal heard toward the end of the AT40 end theme from this same period could be a vocal interpretation of that "shuck-a-toom" guitar sound. Again, I'm just guessing here.
