I wouldn't be surprised if the unknown causes is cancer-related stuff.
Steely Dan were one of my all-time favorite acts from the 1970s. They had a few classic rock hits until the disco era, after which their sound changed to more of a jazz-flavored pop sound by the time the band released their album Aja in 1977. The transition to the duo's new sound was showing signs when the duo released "Don't Take Me Alive" (which reminds me of Miami Vice, since it sounds reminiscent of Glenn Frey's 1984 song "Smuggler's Blues") and "Kid Charlemagne", both of which were from their 1976 album The Royal Scam. Their song "FM (No Static at All)", given its saxophone solo midway through the song and being a soft-tempo song, I wouldn't be surprised if it was from the album Aja. After Steely Dan broke up, Donald Faygen (I added the "y" to circumvent the censorship) released his only solo top 40 hit in the fall of 1982 with "I.G.Y. (What a Beautiful World)" - it was a pretty good pop song.
Their only top 40 record in the 1980s was "Hey Nineteen", which was the duo's "swan song" on the Billboard top 40. The duo reunited in 2000 for their reunion album 2 Against Nature - it definitely wasn't my father's Steely Dan.

And "FM (No Static at All)" was not on the Aja album even though it was a hit in between the second and third singles from that Lp. It was only on the FM soundtrack.
