Nobody's mentioned "Disco Duck"? This record got Rick Dees fired for playing it on his own show. I would have fired him for recording it. This piece of sh*t hit #1, no less!

You had to be there--it's a '70s thing! Funny the first couple of times one heard it, but it did get old very quickly. As most, if not all, novelty songs do.

And somebody mentioned Bobby Goldsboro...how about "Watching Scotty Grow"? The epitome of cheezy and sappy... Cheesy is a good description. But putting it into the context that Mac (Scott) Davis wrote the song for his son (Joel Scott), makes it a cute little tune.

Most embarrassing songs by year in IMO (summer emphasis in most cases) 1970 Julie Do You Love Me-Bobby Sherman (I despised this tune in 1970 and find it tolerable now) 1971 Sweet and Innocent-Donny Osmond (actually enjoyed this as a 10-year-old--not so much now) 1972 Clair-Gilbert O'Sullivan 1973 Sing-Carpenters 1974 Billy Don't Be a Hero-Heywoods or Bobby Vinton's "My Melody of Love" (I don't mind hearing these while alone) 1975 Before the Next Teardrop (It reminds me of a girl I liked in 7th grade) 1976 Let Her In (I actually enjoy this song but won't admit it to most of my family or friends) 1977 The Henhouse Five plus Too Version of "In the Mood" 1978 Only the Good Die Young (if I am with a group of fellow Catholics who are religious) 1979 Rainbow Connection (especially around diehard AOR types) 1980 She's Out of My Life (I enjoy it but it reminds me of a girl I liked in 12th grade) 1981 The One that You Love (a maudlin tune my girlfriend at the time loved) 1982 Body Language (pure swill) 1983 Rick Springfield's Human Touch (cheesy) 1984 The Longest Time--I used to enjoy this in the '780s, but adult contemporary overkill ruined it for me 1985 The Goonies "R" Good Enough (not a bad tune but a little cheesy) 1986 There'll Be Sad Songs (reminds me too much of a woman I liked at the time) 1987 Girls, Girls, Girls (I was 26 by the time this came out and was no fan of headbanger music) 1988 Naughty Girls (Need Love Too) 1989 I'm That Type of Guy-L.L. Cool J. or anything by Winger Keep in mind, the thread is most embarrassing--presumably, a song that seemed to be a real dip in artistic merit for the artist, or one that we might assume the artist regrets having had released. Your list seems to be more about personal dislikes (although there are a few that I would agree fit the bill). Your 1985 selection is an interesting one to me. I actually like that song, and my feeling is the song itself is pretty good, but its title is a total travesty. The story I've read is that Cyndi's working title for it was simply "Good Enough", but that the motion picture company that wanted to release it had the brilliant idea of adding "The Goonies R" to the title. Cyndi pushed back against that, and ended up disliking the song because of it to the point that she wouldn't play it live for years. Eventually she warmed back up to the song and plays it somewhat today, but refers to it by her original title for it. An example of how over commercializing a work of art can severely compromise its long term appeal...

Michael Jackson had a few throughout in his career. Ones that come to mind: "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" - MJ could not sound cornier in the speaking parts, especially when coupled with some of his tough guy hits of the time, like "Bad". That wasn't a great song to begin with, but MJ's speaking parts are cringe-worthy. "Heal the World" - a syrupy, schmaltzy song that could only have been a hit for Michael Jackson and nobody else. Michael had some good ballads, but this one was over the top, to put it mildly. "The Girl Is Mine" - "Paul, I already told you: I'm a lover not a fighter!" Ugh...again, MJ should've avoided speaking parts in his songs. "She's Out of My Life" - all the crying...always makes me chuckle when I hear this song and I think of Eddie Murphy's comedy bit about it. "Tito give me some tissue...Jermaine stop teasing!" "In The Closet" is one I just heard and the line "There's something about you baby that makes me wanna give it to you" is ear-cringing. Along with the title, could make you think about something else...

I remember vacationing with my mother and aunt in the summer of 1986, and randomly attempting to find a station broadcasting AT40. (We never did.) As we searched, my brother and I kept rattling off the songs we'd get to hear if we found it, among them "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off." My mother and aunt, in unison: "WHAT?"

An example of this might be the "Be quiet, big boys don't cry" part of "I'm Not In Love" by 10cc. I actually rather liked that part, but know a few people who don't. Interestingly enough about the "big boys don't cry" line in "I'm Not In Love"--Godley and Creme actually reprised that in their 1985 hit "Cry". It's not my favorite part of either song, but there has been worse... I hate the way they ended "Cry," which IMO was a great song with the distorted cry......Cry......CRYYYYYYYYYY My vote goes to Long Haired Lover from Liverpool. Straight up Osmond family cash grab. Please shoot me.

The local station here plays "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons a lot. I like most of the song but I hate it when he sings, "I'm breathing in the chemicals" and then there's a horrible breathing-in sound afterward. Can't stand that.

For me, there have only been a few songs that embarrass me to the point I will turn off the radio.
1990: "Love Is" - Alannah Myles. The chorus, with some weird male background voice, has always made me cringe and would make me want to hide so no one would know I might actually be listening to the song.
2014: "All About That Bass" - Meghan Trainor. I get the intentions of the lyrics. But I've always thought that the song could have made its point without, in my opinion, putting down thin people. It's funny: "Baby Got Back" doesn't bother me, and I think it is because Trainor's lyrics are more degrading to thin people than Mix's were.
2016: "Me Too" - Meghan Trainor. This time the lyrics do not embarrass me as much as how she says the line, "If I were you, I'd wanna be me too". It's the way she says wanna. Like she puts a "v" sound where the "w" should be. Sounds like she is trying to do a bad impression of someone who speaks English as a second language. I would turn off the radio every time it came on a couple of years ago.
It's funny: there are other Trainor songs I like. But these two songs haunt me.
