In the latest British Top 100 Chart released yesterday, Ed Sheeran has done some things that no other artist has ever come close to accomplishing, even the Beatles. He has the top 6 songs on the survey. He has 9 of the top 10 songs and 14 of the top 15. He has 16 of the top 19 songs.
I know it is totally inappropriate to compare these feats to any accomplishments that happened before 1992 due to some major changes in methodology of calculating such things, but 16 of the top 19 is some major domination. Hopefully Drake or Justin Bieber or Adele or Taylor Swift or any other top current artist never dominate the Hot 100 in such a fashion, but it seems that almost anything is possible nowadays.
It is doubtful that Ed Sheeran will have such a major impact on the next edition of the Billboard Hot 100, which will be released Monday afternoon. All this activity for Sheeran is because his new album, Divide, was released on March 3rd. Billboard says that on the most recent "Billboard & Twitter Top Tracks" mid-week chart, Sheeran has 13 of the top 50 songs, which is a record, so his impact on the Billboard Hot 100 won't be small. But it won't be close to 16 of the top 19.

Given the current methodology being used in the 60s, you have to think the Beatles would have been in the neighborhood of that achievement in either the UK and/or the US. With sites like reelradio having audio clips of radio stations going back that far, you would think at least an estimation of what the chart would have looked like could be done. But as it is, Ed has a shot at a "Hey Jude" like chart run with his "Shape of You" hit.

It's important to keep in mind that the UK chart doesn't include airplay, so it'll be a long time before anyone dominates the Hot 100 like that, if it ever happens.
