Oh good. Pearl Jam... I was worried they had run out of crap groups to induct.

Never heard of Bad Brains, Joe Tex, MC5, or Kraftwerk (or isn't that the German show spoof on SNL by Mike Myers)

Probably ELO, Journey and Janet Jackson would be my top three picks on this list.
I still am of the opinion that the Carter Family needs to be inducted as an Early Influence. Their music was primarily old-time country, folk and gospel, but had profound impact on what would become modern popular music, from the 1940s through the 1950s and later ... akin to artists including Bob Wills, Jimmie Rodgers, Bill Monroe and Hank Williams.
But that is another matter altogether. Any early influences (pre-rock era) that should be inducted that haven't been to date?

I think they should change the name to the Rock n Pop Hall of Fame (it would better reflect the musical styles of who is making it in). There is nothing wrong with recognizing popular music entertainers of all kinds of music. Most people like multiple genres of music--so why not rename the hall to to reflect that?!

I agree about the Carter family as well. My five votes are The Cars, ELO, Janet, Journey and Yes. As far as Joe Tex... I had the 45 "I Gotcha"... when I was about 7 or 8 yo. It sounded like nothing I'd heard before... except perhaps for James Brown "I Feel Good". That funk sound caused me to love Kool and The Gang's "Jungle Boogie" and then a lot of different songs by Bill Withers, James Brown, Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder. All because of Joe Tex "I Gotcha"... :-)

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA
Well... why not? Certainly by last year's Dazed and Confused standards, ELO should be a shoo-in: They were a regular chart presence for the majority of the '70s, they're respected album artists, and you can't listen to classic-rock radio for an office round-trip without being smothered by their violins. Hell, auteur Jeff Lynne was in the Traveling Wilburys -- a co-founder! -- the RNRHOF-iest supergroup in the museum's history by an exponential margin. You could say that the lingering (if silly) whiff of novelty about the band might hold them back their first time out -- all the spaceships and indoor sunglasses and whatnot -- but expect Brooklyn audiences to be rolling their "R"s along to "Don't Bring Me Down" at an induction ceremony soon enough.
Odds: 2 to 1
Gee, I'm absolutely SHOCKED by this post! By the way, Jeff Lynne should be inducted solo as well IMO.

Never heard of Bad Brains, Joe Tex, MC5, or Kraftwerk (or isn't that the German show spoof on SNL by Mike Myers) Bad Brains is an alternative band. Joe Tex had hits in the 60's and 70's like Skinny Legs and All, I Gotcha and Ain't Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman) MC5 was a rock group out of Detroit. Kick Out The Jams was their most well known tune. Another of theirs that was good is called Over and Over. Kraftwerk was early techno/electronic music. Trans Europe Express, Pocket Calculator and Autobahn are well known songs.

Although I give Joe Tex a vote for that last song title.

Top 2 Acts with Most Top 40 hits without a #1 on The Billboard Hot 100 are 2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees
1. Electric Light Orchestra-20* 2. Journey-18
*Side note, ELO did hit #1 on Radio & Records (R&R) July 6th, 1979, with "Shine a Little Love", but in most people's minds this does not count!

Similarly, Journey had THREE #1's on R&R (Who's Crying Now, Open Arms, Separate Ways), yet none of them reached #1 on Billboard.
