I know many of us are huge fans of American Top 40 from the 70s and 80s but I am curious if anyone is into new music these days. If so, do you still love Top 40 music, or are you into a different genre like Hot AC, alternative, country or another format? If you don't listen to new music, when did you stop listening? Me... I loved Top 40 music through around 1993. Once rap became mainstream on Top 40 stations and alternative rock stations made inroads, I switched to alternative rock through the rest of the 90s and the first decade of the 2000s. From 2010 until 2014, I wasn't into new music that much until I moved back to Detroit and discovered WQKL, an adult alternative station based out of Ann Arbor ("Ann Arbor's 107 one"). They play about 40% new music with 60% from the 70s until now. It's a great mix. For the week ending 4/30/16 , here are my Top 5 songs: 5. "Wasted Love" by City & Colour 4. "Off The Ground" by The Record Company 3. "Hey No Pressure" by Ray LaMontagne 2. "Ophelia" by The Lumineers 1. "Under The Influence" by Elle King So... what are your favorite new tunes? If you aren't into new music, what do you listen to now (besides AT40 reruns )?

I still enjoy a lot of today's tunes, like "No" by Meghan Trainor, "7 Years" by Lukas Graham, "Dangerous Woman" by Ariana Grande and "Make Me Like You" by Gwen Stefani, just to name a few.

I was all top 40 until 1987 when I started listening to AOR. From then until 1994, it was a mix of top 40, AOR and the then new classic rock format. In 1994, I dropped top 40 altogether and listened to AOR, alternative and hard rock/heavy metal. Then in 2000, got a new girlfriend who was a country gal and so dropped all of those formats and went country. About halfway through the 2000s, I mixed in 60s, 70s and 80s oldies as I was getting back into the music I grew up with on the station that plays the classic AT40s. When I discovered that they played AT40 in 2010, I dropped country altogether and went totally with that oldies format along with R&B oldies on another station. And that is what I still listen to now when I turn on the radio which is few and far between. No new music for me and a lot of countdowns from the 70s to this decade including ACC. So they encompass virtually all of the genres that I have listened to over the years.

I like a lot of stuff out these days. Maroon 5, Adele, and I personally think "1989" by Taylor Swift is one of the best albums I've heard in years and going to be a defining one of this generation.

Pretty much the same as freakyflybry and @paul mentioned, as well as newer acts like Fifth Harmony, Twenty One Pilots, Zedd, Ellie Goulding, etc. Also have T-Swift's "1989" album - absolutely love it. Daughtry is back with a greatest hits package - really like "Torches". Also, the Pet Shop Boys just came out with a new album, "Super". Their music is timeless.

I am 56 years of age, and I am even too old for the upper demographic of AC radio! My sister (who will be too old for AC in three months) was listening to an AC station on our ride home from vacation. There was not a single song from the 1970s on that station (but a handful from the early 1980s). I still listen to a lot of new music--ranging from folk to adult alternative to roots music stuff. With folk, you could be age 6 (I listened to my father's folk albums at that age) or 112 (I'll likely be listening to folk in 2073, but I'll very likely be somewhere--hopefully not too hot-- by then. LOL.)
My top 10 for 7/8/17
1 I Don't Want to Be in Love-Gina Sicilia blues rock 2 How We Met, the Long Version-Jens Lekman disco/alternative 3 Brand New Day-Mavericks Americana 4 A Woman's Love-Willie Nelson Trad Country 5 Riot in the Streets-Pokey LaFarge Americana (My niece from St. Louis turned me on to this guy, also from St. Louis) 6 Freedom Highway-Rhiannon Giddens Americana/Gospel/Soul 7 Happy People-Little Big Town Country--if I like a contemporary country song, it usually does poorly on that chart. 8 Silver Skies Blue-Judy Collins/Ari Hest Folk (Collins' biggest hit ever on my song chart--previously, it had been "Send In the Clowns," which reached the top 20 in 1975, the first year of my chart.) 9 In My World-Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie Adult Alternative (would have been an AOR tune in 1980s or even 1990s) 10 I Feel like Hank Williams Tonight-Sunny Sweeney Trad Country (By coincidence, the version by Jerry Jeff Walker had debuted on the country chart 28 years to the date before this song chart).

It was either late 2006 or early 2007 when I realized that I was aging out of their demographic when our local Hot AC station was focusing on celebrity gossip and other features that I couldn't care less about. I deep-sixed commercial radio altogether in 2007 when I finally got access to the Internet at home.
