Hmm, has my curiosity peaked.....maybe they are going to air 80s shows also?

I guess either swapping out the 70s for the 80s or simply adding 80s, based on the 80s special they aired this past weekend.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them adding the 80s shows, since their overall playlist has tilted in a more recent direction since the changeover to "The Bus". Maybe last week's special was a foreshadowing of that. Still, I'd hate to see them drop the 70s given that we could rely on them to play both shows from that decade when Premiere provided two.

My biggest concern is that WODC is my go-to station for 4-hour 70's broadcasts. Hopefully those will all be run.

I think it's a perfect move for you guys, Mike, with the new sound of the station. Is it safe to asssume there will be a Sunday night show most weeks now?

Thanks, all. Yes, it's a great move for us! I am partial to the 70s shows because I grew up with them on WNCI. We've had them on since the beginning (4-3-2011) and they still sound great. There will be some nice combinations. Some weeks both the "B" 70s and "B" 80s show, other weeks a 4-hour 70s mixed with a late-80s. Also two 70s shows are possible and there will be several all 80s. Depend on some 80s "A" and "B" combinations. I am especially excited about the Ken Martin #1 80s that have been posted about, so the Memorial, July 4 and Labor Day holiday weekends could have three, maybe 4 shows total. That could mean a regular 70s, regular 80s "A" and/or "B"---plus the #1 80s...and maybe an additional 70s special. The exciting thing I that after almost 5 years of Classic AT40 there will be a fresh batch of shows never heard before on WODC.
BrettVW, I am looking at a Sunday Night Special many times TFN. I am improvising, just putting them there, with no objections so far, especially with the 80s shows matching our playlist so well.
mitchm, My focus will be to hit all the 4-hour 70s offered. We have that space, the reason for the sometimes 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. start times.
spock, Hoping to keep you satisfied!
Good calls adam31 and mkarns. Ya'll nailed it!
A few observations previewing this week's shows. For 1982 THREE of the extras show up on our playlist one hour before and within a few minutes after the show. For 1986, again THREE of the extras are within the hour of the broadcast, this time all after the show. Oh! and #4 HARDEN MY HEART for the 1982 was the first song AFTER the countdown! lol! I deleted it so that it won't play after AT40 is over. Definitely something I am going to have to watch!

Mike, at least online, 2 extras were missed the past two weeks. Will the extras stay for those of us who listen online? I know you program for those in your radio market but it would be nice to hear the extras online. At least the actual show is intact. Back in December there were times when the online commercial load would bleed into the show and part of the show would be missed.

Thanks, lasvegaskid and SFGuy:
I have mapped out a plan for the shows, provided that AT40 will be both a day and night show going forward, which I think might be the case. With that, ALL of the 4-hour 70s offered will play, day or night. There are usually around 6 of those a year. I would like them at night to keep the Sunday night presentations at 4 hours to be consistent. There could be a 4-hour 70s in the a.m. paired with a late-80s in the p.m. and vice-versa, or a handful of 3-hour 70s in the p.m. The desired spacing for each time slot would be a 10-to-12-week span between the same years, and the same for p.m. You could, however get a 1985 in mid-Feb for an a.m. and a 1985 again in the p.m. in mid-March, and that's OK. Just good spacing between years in the same time slot is the plan.
Plan B:
If AT40 becomes a one-time-on-Sundays show, still all the 4-hour 70s will be selected, and the best possible 70s and 80s variety will air throughout the year.
AT40 EXTRAS: The local spot breaks are no longer time-limited to accommodate the national spot load on AT40, so our regular spot loads air, meaning the show, with all extras, would run about 15-17 minutes after NOON. Programming management has demonstrated they don't like that, so extras have been lopped off as of late. Expect NO EXTRAS for the a.m. airings until the show is actually allotted that a.m. time-slot again officially.
As I have said before, there is no problem running late at night, which is why I have scheduled the show to (officially) end at 11P, so that the national spots will never run after midnight. That's the reason for a 7P start for 4-hour shows and an 8P start for 3-hour shows. So ALL EXTRAS will air as usual for the p.m. shows.
Something interesting for this week. The extras on both shows actually show up on our playlist close to the shows, so if you listen one hour before and for a few minutes afterward, you will have heard them. You still get the song extras, just not from the show itself. That happens on the night show, too. But to keep the show extras on I was able to delete the songs from our playlist. Easy to do on a Sunday night, but not in the early afternoon. A very funny situation was Quarterflash on the countdown at #4, then scheduled as the first song after AT40 ends on our regular playlist. I had to jettison that one! This might happen a lot, but you would never know, of course. AT4080s is so aligned with our playlist that it is a constant danger to have charted songs come up again in short order on the station.
So for now enjoy two shows on Sundays! Based on some "predictions" posts here, which usually are correct, I see a 70s/80s combo coming as early as next week.

Wow, Mike, we've now come full-circle! I've lived my entire life in West-Central Ohio and grew up listening to WNCI not only as my AT40 source, but for its programming at the time! As time passed, my music tastes evolved, but all of that stopped when the station introduced Friday Night 80s (and its successor Sunday Night 80s) in the mid-90s - I returned to the tunes of my youth and have never gone back! I have 14-year-old twins whom are WNCI fans and I'm trying to get them hooked on the current version of AT40 - they won't regret it!
I am thrilled beyond words that WODC will now be carrying the 80s seasons of AT40! Living as close to the Dayton market as I do Columbus, I've been spoiled by having AT40 The 80s available terrestrially via WMMX all these years, but their Saturday 6:00 AM start is not always the most accommodating time slot available! Although I'm not a huge fan of the 70s show (it does pre-date me by just a bit), I have tuned in WODC's broadcast quite frequently when out-and-about on Sunday mornings, so having the 80s option available over the air is just amazing!
Looking so forward to hearing the maiden 80s episodes broadcast tomorrow!
Just wanted to say Thank You! for all that you've done for Central Ohio radio during your career and for all of your continuing efforts to keep the spirit of Casey alive and well in the present!
We've never met, but d**n if I don't feel like I know you... not only by the quality of your work over the years, but by your integrity and passion for all of this that resonates so clearly in your messages here!
Kudos!
