Cheap Trick, Deep Purple, the Cars, Yes, Steve Miller and Chicago are among the 15 artists who have been newly nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Approximately five of these acts will actually be chosen as part of next year’s Hall of Fame induction class, which will be announced in December.
The other nine nominees are Los Lobos, Nine Inch Nails, Janet Jackson, N.W.A, the Smiths, Chaka Khan, Chic, the J.B.’s and the Spinners
I think it'll be Deep Purple, Steve Miller, The Cars, Chicago and Janet Jackson that make it.
Spinners should but won't, Yes and Cheap Trick are deserving but won't...

No Electric Light Orchestra?
They should be nominated.
And get inducted!

Of this year's nominees, I'm most rooting for Chicago and the Spinners to make it in. Yeah, Chicago's sappy ballads have dragged down their reputation, but their horn-rock masterpieces from the early '70's ("25 Or 6 To 4", "Make Me Smile", and "Beginnings", to name a few) more than warrant their inclusion in the HOF. Besides, Neil Diamond, Billy Joel, and Elton John made it in and they all released lots of mushy ballads. As for the Spinners, their absence from the HOF is even more mind-boggling, when you consider the similar-sounding O'Jay's made it in years ago (deservedly so, of course).
One more point before I get off my soapbox: Am I the only one upset and disgusted that Boston hadn't gotten in yet? C'mon, their debut album is not only one of most successful debuts ever by a rock act, but one of the biggest selling rock albums ever. And all eight selections from that release are classic rock standards; what other classic rock album can you say that about?

I am thrilled that Chicago was finally nominated. I agree with slf that their 70's music was wonderful.
Janet Jackson in some ways seems like a shoe-in given 18 Top 5 hits. My gut says she won't make it in the first year but should soon thereafter.
I would love it if the Cars and the Spinners made it in.
ELO should have been nominated. Boston didn't have that many albums... not sure if they have had enough output to be nominated.
You have to feel for Chic... it's their 10th time nominated. While I don't think the group did enough to be inducted, Nile Rodgers should be nominated on his own for his work in Chic and his producing skills with such artists as Madonna, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Daft Punk, INXS and Diana Ross.
Speaking of Janet Jackson and producers... Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis should be nominated given how many songs they produced and wrote. Did you know they wrote 41 songs which hit the Top 10?

If I could choose who gets to be in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame for 2016, I would choose:
Deep Purple
Chicago
Yes
Electric Light Orchestra
Jethro Tull
Los Lobos
The Cars
The Moody Blues

I came across the following a few days ago, Nile Rogers briefly lets us know of his real feeling about R&R Hall of Fame (not in very complimentary terms.) See paragraph six. www.nytimes.com/2015/11/06/fashion/mens-style/nile-rodgers-still-chic-after-all-these-years.html?_r=0

NWA.... over even Janet is an abomination. Zero hits, not even rock... Bunch of BS.

I realize fan voting is only part of the criteria for R&R HOF induction but here are the final tallies from music fans (inductees in bold): 1. Chicago: 37.7 million votes2. Yes: 26.1 million votes 3. The Cars: 26 million votes 4. Deep Purple: 25.54 million votes 5. Steve Miller: 25.51 million votes6. Janet Jackson 9.6 million votes 7. Cheap Trick: 2.4 million votes8. The Spinners: 2.1 million votes 9. Chaka Khan: 1.9 million votes 10. Chic: 1.3 million votes 11. The JB's: 950,000 votes 12. NWA: 674,000 votes13. Nine Inch Nails: 564,000 votes 14. The Smiths: 490,000 votes 15. Los Lobos: 405,000 votes So The Cars and Yes don't make it in with 26 million votes each yet NWA makes it in with less than a million votes? I smell payola . #2 thru #5 are all close in balloting with a huge gap between #5 Steve Miller and #6 Janet Jackson.

Yeah, both Yes and The Cars get about 40 times the votes but they let NWA in? White guilt?
