Casey Kasem's American Top 40 - The 80's from August 29th, 1981, is on all weekend, #21, the 7-man band called Electric Light Orchestra is now a 4-man band known as ELO and here's their current hit, up 7 notches to 21 this week, ELO with, Hold on Tight...
From England, it's ELO, at #21, moving up 7 big notches on American Top 40 with Hold on Tight.
PS-The previous year, David Bowie had released his "Ashes to Ashes" music video which was considered as the most innovative to date at that time. But ELO were largely regarded to have surpassed that with their music video for "Hold on Tight". At the time it was the most expensive ever made at around £40,000 - Source: UK Midlands Central TV News, August, 1981, thanks Ade!
PSS-After hearing "Hold on Tight" on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 Mighty 690 AM Radio Show back in 1981 while with family around Ventura, California, a US Route 101 road trip to Santa Barbara's Mission when I was just 8 years old, Dad then bought me my very first Electric Light Orchestra album from Tower Records, an audio cassette of Time by ELO, thus started the fandom 34 years ago!

Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel, AWESOME VIDEO. Wish I was computer tech savvy, and could provide the link to the You Tube vid! I also think it won best vid for 1986.

I remember one artist's career that came to an end because of a music video-"Rock Me Tonite" by Billy Squier! If MTV had existed in 1978-79, Olivia Newton-John's career might have been ended by this band, especially the keyboard player. I think there might have been some cocaine backstage in both cases. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTsdz5cNTeYCheck out Toto's early videos sometime.

The Xanadu 1980 Musical Motion Picture/Soundtrack and Magic are awesome!
I prefer A Little More Love's original music video from 1978...
