Mike, I read your article a few weeks ago on the James Brown influence on top 40 radio and AT40 in the early 1970's and it was awesome! Thanks for sharing it with a link on the AT40 message board.
Respectfully speaking, I do have one disagreement. In 1973, I think James Brown should be credited with "Doin' It To Death" by Fred Wesley & the J.B.'s (which stood for "James Browns" according to Casey). And that is clearly Brown singing lead. (I give Wesley credit for the best trombone solo in all of pop music!) So I would add this song in addition to "I Got Ants In My Pants (and I want to dance)."
Your thoughts?

RNH, I like that idea, and thanks for the kind words about the article. I remember that Fred Wesley & The J.B.'s hit and noticing James Brown's participation, actually leading the charge alongside Wesley and that trombone! I played the instrument in high school and college, so the song was very interesting to me. I could actually play most of the solo! Even though the record isn't billed as by James Brown, it is certainly worthy of adding a mention in my piece, which I will. Thank you again for enjoying the article!
