Following a similar theme of a couple of recent threads, I'd like to provide, by year from 70-88, my favorite songs to barely make it into the Top 10, songs peaking at #10. The inspiration for this thread is my lavish praise in my 1971 critique this week of George Harrison's majestic "What Is Life", which is my all-time favorite #10 song. Here are the others:
1970: Up The Ladder To The Roof/The Supremes (before AT40 began, but oh well) 1972: Layla/Derek & The Dominos 1973: Feelin' Stronger Every Day/Chicagao 1974: Just Don't Want To Be Lonely/The Main Ingredient 1975: It Only Takes A Minute/Tavares 1976: Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again/Barry Manilow 1977: You Made Me Believe In Magic/The Bay City Rollers 1978: This Time I'm In It For Love/Player 1979: Take The Long Way Home/Supertramp 1980: Off The Wall/Michael Jackson 1981: Theme From "Hill Street Blues"/Mike Post featuring Larry Carlton 1982: Hooked On Classics/The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra 1983: Twilight Zone/Golden Earring 1984: If Ever You're In My Arms Again/Peabo Bryson 1985: Relax/Frankie Goes To Hollywood 1986: The Edge Of Heaven/Wham! 1987: One Heartbeat/Smokey Robinson 1988: Hysteria/Def Leppard
(My picks for '84 and '87 are only fair to mediocre, but the pickings were slim at the position those years, IMHO.)

Two faves:
1984 Madonna - Borderline 1989 Jimmy Harnen with Synch - Where Are You Now?
Not a favorite, but a funny one, 1983 Frank Stallone - Far From Over, one of the worst songs ever to hit the top ten.
