2/9/85:Billy Joel - Keeping The Faith David Lee Roth - California Girls Julian Lennon - Too Late For Goodbyes Ray Parker Junior - JamieThe Honeydrippers - Rockin´ At Midnight Love and Valentine´s DayIn 1980 and 1982, the two successful movies "La Boum - Die Fete" and "La Boum - Die Fete geht weiter", which take the feelings of adolescents seriously and respect them, were made in France. And although both movies are a bit older, they still manage to appeal to and enchant teenagers and even adults today. "Boum" is the French word for "party", so you can translate the titles with "The party" and "The party goes on". The outdoor shots for the second movie "La Boum - Die Fete geht weiter", which can be seen right at the beginning, took place in St. Koloman and in the city of Salzburg. In both movies in the leading role: Sophie Marceau, who played the role of Elektra King in the James Bond movie "The world is not enough" in 1999.
And both movies produced one hit each - and both hits are very suitable for Valentine´s Day. From the first movie "La Boum - The party" "Reality" by Richard Sanderson: And from the second movie "La Boum - The party goes on" "Your Eyes" by the British pop band Cook Da Books: And that brings me - logically - to my " Valentine´s Day"-edition for this year: 2/9/85:Chicago - You´re The Inspiration Eric Carmen - I Wanna Hear It From Your Lips Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is REO Speedwagon - Can´t Fight This Feeling Tina Turner - Private DancerAn Austrian extra: More Than Just A HolydayIn keeping with Valentine´s Day, another project by Stian Rigby ( at40fg.proboards.com/post/145364), this time from 1986 and very often heard in the Ö3 night program at that time. "... Lady Lady Lady My Lady Blue What can I do ? I fell in love with you I fell in love with you ..." - here´s Stian Rigby as " More Than Just A Holyday" with "Lady Blue": from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

Tenderness is a great song. I dig English Beat and General Public's music. However, it's not surprising to me that it only reached 27. They were fairly unknown to US audience and had no momentum from previous single(s). Also, 1985 was a really strong year for pop with a lot of the decade's best artists putting out their best stuff. The competition for airplay and sales was tough.
Looking forward to this week's show.

2/13/88 (A):George Harrison - Got My Mind Set On You Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine - Can´t Stay Away From YouIcehouse - Crazy Men Without Hats - Pop Goes The World
Sting - Be Still My Beating Heart 2/21/81 (B):Barbra Streisand & Barry Gibb - What Kind Of FoolBoz Scaggs - Miss Sun Cliff Richard - A Little In Love Donnie Iris - Ah ! Leah ! The Outlaws - (Ghost) Riders In The Sky 100 years of women´s suffrage in AustriaIn 1919, the general right to vote for women was applied for the first time. On 2/16/1919 the first free, equal and secret election was held in Austria. The active voting age at that time was 20 years. Many women made use of the right that has been sought for decades. 82 % of women eligible to vote casted their votes. More than 100 women ran for office, eight of whom were elected to the Constituent National Assembly, including Adelheid Popp. In April 1919 she was the first woman to speak in the Austrian Parliament. She was one of the most important pioneers of the social democratic women´s movement and was committed to the rights and improvement of the situation of working class women. At a very early stage she called for a reform of family law in order to achieve gender equality. So, here are my current " women"-editions for this week: 2/13/88 (A):Belinda Carlisle - I Get Weak Cher - I Found Someone Salt´n´Pepa - Push It Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart The Bangles - Hazy Shade Of Winter 2/21/81 (B):Abba - The Winner Takes It All Blondie - Rapture Diana Ross - It´s My TurnDolly Parton - 9 To 5 Pat Benatar - Treat Me Right An Austrian extra: D-MonaWomen´s power also in this week´s extra from Austria. Maybe a little exaggerated, but the Viennese Monika Brzobohaty was sometimes called "Tina Turner of Vienna". And since "Monika Brzobohaty" is not necessarily a name suitable for radio, the Viennese simply called herself D-Mona and was able to record some hits with this pseudonym. In June 1988 she reached #12 with "Dancing On Fire": And in 1989 she gave us the song "Leave Me Alone": from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

[...] * Ooh Baby Baby... Baby Baby! I think this was every college guy's favorite song in early '88... a travesty it only hit #19: [...] Here in Austria this refrain is currently best known thanks to the advertising of an office support: "Push It" also reminds me of a conversation I had pretty much exactly 30 years ago with a salesman from the legendary record store "Sound Of Music" in Salzburg´s Judengasse. He reported about a message on Ö3 that "Push It" was the most played song of 1988 on Ö3. We only looked at each other, laughed and knew that this couldn´t be true. In 1988 Michael Jackson, Milli Vanilli, Elton John, Sam Brown, Black and D-Mona (this week´s Austrian extra - at40fg.proboards.com/post/152766) were very often represented in the Ö3 playlists. In difference to "Push It" Salt´n´Pepa were at the top of the Austrian Charts for 12 (!) weeks in 1991: "Spinderella Cut It Up One Time" ... here´s "Let´s Talk About ..." Aha ! And the advertising industry doesn´t stop at REO Speedwagon either: Now, after so much advertising and since today is also Valentine´s Day, I finish this post with an extra " Valentine´s Day"-edition: 2/13/88 (A):Elton John - Candle In The Wind Eric Carmen - Hungry eyesFleetwood Mac - Everywhere Richard Marx - Endless Summer Nights Tiffany - Could´ve Been2/21/81 (B):Air Supply - Every Woman In The World Barbra Streisand & Barry Gibb - GuiltyJohn Lennon - Woman
REO Speedwagon - Keep On Loving You Tierra - Together
And by the way:
"What flowers grow between your nose and your chin ?" "Tulips."
from my musical category "daydreamer" My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."
