Don´t give AIDS a chance
World AIDS Day was first proclaimed by WHO in 1988 and is celebrated on 12/1 each year. This year the World AIDS Day will take place for the 31th time. Although HIV/AIDS is developing into a chronic disease, it´s still important to point out the infection routes and risks. This is why every year governments, organisations and associations around the world remember HIV and AIDS on this day and call for action and solidarity with those affected by HIV. World AIDS Day also serves to remind those responsible in politics, the media, business and society that the HI virus has by no means been defeated. And that means are still needed so that prevention and education, but also treatment and help for those affected can be realized. Thus a reference with the former moderator of the music show "Formel 1" ("Formula One"), Ingolf Lück, from 1989 is still relevant:
An Austrian extra: Conchita
Conchita was also confronted with the topic of HIV in 2018, but all in turn. Conchita alias Thomas "Tom" Neuwirth was born on 11/6/88 in Gmunden, Upper Austria, as a son of a couple who were innkeepers. He grew up in the Styrian town of Bad Mitterndorf. Already at the age of 14 Tom moved from home and went to the fashion school in Graz: "I held out for three years, then 'Starmania' came and I thought: 'Oh, now I´m famous' and dropped out of school. But two years later I realized that a school-leaving certificate was something very useful and then I went back and graduated." In 2006, shortly before his 18th birthday, he outed himself as a gay and took part (still as "Tom Neuwirth") in the third season of the ORF casting show "Starmania", where he reached #2. "To live as a little gay boy in Upper Styria was not always easy. The problem back then was simply that I didn´t really know if I was homosexual or not, and you had hidden it from yourself and didn´t admit it yet.", Conchita admits openly today. Since 2011 Tom appears as Conchita Wurst and later as Conchita. Conchita explains their creation as a reaction and statement against discrimination, which he experienced in his youth because of his homosexuality. His appearance as Conchita should also lead to "young people having it easier - no matter for what reason they are different from the others". The name Conchita was given to Tom by a friend from Cuba. On 5/10/14 Conchita won the 59th Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen with "Rise like a Phoenix":
In order to escape the blackmail of a former boyfriend, Conchita turned out to be HIV positive on 4/15/18. Conchita wrote on Instagram: "I have been HIV positive for many years. This is actually irrelevant for the public, but an ex-boyfriend threatens me to go public with this private information, and I will not give anyone the right to frighten me and influence my life in this way in the future". A few weeks ago Conchita released an album with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. From this album here are the cover versions of the two songs "All by myself" and "The Sound of Music":

I must be in my tough grader mode today...
My Top 15 songs from the 12/2/72 countdown (song titles only, absolute faves in bold): Top 10: Ventura Highway, I'll Be Around, It Never Rains In Southern California, Summer Breeze, If You Don't Know Me By Know, I Can See Clearly Now, Papa Was A Rolling Stone #11-20: Operator, Nights In White Satin, Me & Mrs. Jones*, Clair #21-30: Dialogue, Witchy Woman, Freddie's Dead #31-40: Superfly * Billy Paul gets my Why Doesn't This #1 Hit Get Any Recurrent Airplay Pick this week. He has an awesome voice, and I love the horns and violins on this tune. This is one way cool slow jam:
My Top 12 songs from the 12/6/80 countdown: Top 10: Dreaming, Hungry Heart, Masterblaster, Woman In Love, Another One Bites The Dust, More Than I Can Say, Lady #11-20: De Do Do Do De Da Da Da, Whip It*, Hot Me With Your Best Shot #21-30: um... ah... none? #31-40: I Love A Rainy Night, The Tide Is High * Devo gets this week's Shooda Dun Betr Pick this week. This was so different from anything on the radio back then, yet it's incredibly catchy.
I know I have said this before with some of my picks but if any radio station out there played "Me & Mrs. Jones" back to back with "Whip It", not only would that station be the only one I would listen to but I would want to DJ at that station!

Didn't get a chance to hear the entire '85 show. Maybe I'll catch the rest on the Tulsa broadcast tonight. Anywho, it's a really string countdown, imo. I remember really enjoying pop music my freshman year of HS, and the songs still hold up, imo. The only clunker is Running Up That Hill.
Favorites:
Never Head Over Heels You Belong To The City Be Near Me Part-Time Lover Alive And Kicking Small Town Tonight She Comes You're A Friend Of Mine Conga Object Of My Desire That's What Friends Are For Sleeping Bag Election Day Miami Vice Theme
HM: Party All The Tome, Saving All My Love For You, Lay Your Hands On Me, You Are My Lady, Broken Wings, I Miss You, Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves, So In Love, Take On Me, Burning Heart, Walk Of Life

^^ listenerwants2know ... I'm going to have some bad dreams tonight after looking at those still images in the video posts above . I hope the dreams weren´t too bad, but just to add: Tom Neuwirth gave the following statement to an Austrian daily newspaper in 2013: "The beard in particular is a means for me to polarize, to draw attention to myself. The world reacts to a woman with hair on her face. What I want is for people to start thinking about my unusual appearance - about sexual orientation, but also about otherness itself. Sometimes you have to make it clear to people in a simple and striking way what it´s all about."

12/12/87:Belinda Carlisle - Heaven is a place on earth John Cougar Mellencamp - Cherry bomb Laura Branigan - Power of loveRichard Marx - Should´ve known better Steve Winwood - Valerie Live is lifeMy " in concert"-edition for Immaculate Conception (12/8/18): 12/12/87:Aerosmith - Dude (looks like a lady) --> liveBilly Idol - Mony Mony --> liveDef Leppard - Animal --> liveElton John - Candle in the wind --> liveNew Order - True Faith --> liveAn Austrian extra: Chip Digit & The StarkidsStrange figures scurry through the undergrowth with hissing and grunting sounds, in the background of which a gigantic something mysterious shines like oversized Christmas tree decorations. The gnomes are beings from another star, the something is their spaceship. A UFO has landed on Earth. But as soon as the strange creatures ghost through the bushes, mysterious men spread panic among the strangers. Their throbbing hearts light up in fear. The gnomes flee in haste into the spaceship, the flare takes off. One of the extraterrestrials is accidentally left behind, seeking refuge in the garden of a suburban family. He looks like a turtle without a shell, looks with a wrinkled face and ancient eyes into a world he is afraid of. But then the ten-year-old Elliott, who at first was deeply shocked, becomes his friend.
The two are engaged in interplanetary communication, and Elliott's sister Gertie soon likes "E.T." (short for "extraterrestrial"), too. Earth becomes asylum for "E.T." until the adults discover him. Now science claims him for itself. Soon Elliott realizes: If he wants to save E.T.´s life, he has to help him go home. In December 1982 "E.T." was released in Austrian cinemas and thanks to Stian Rigby ( at40fg.proboards.com/post/145364) there was also an Austrian single for this event. Together with a children´s choir "We love i.T.i." was recorded. For copyright reasons, the spelling "i.T.i." was used, which, however, is pronounced in German in the same way as "E.T.". In the Austrian charts the single didn´t last too long and only reached #17 in 1983, but it has cult status and was often used by the DJ´s at that time: from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."
