I am surprised that nobody has mentioned a classic rock track, Layla by Derek & The Dominos (Eric Clapton). The song first charted in 1971 and peaked at #51 in the so called short version. Then about a year later the full seven minute version charted and hit #10. I am curious of one thing though, has anybody seen an actual copy of the 45 that includes the seven minute version? I've owned a copy since 1972! Yes, it's the full song.

How about Kate Bush? 30s in 1985 then Top 10 in 2022.

Now that this thread has been resurrected after almost 9 years, here are a few others that come to mind -- didn't necessarily hit top 10, but did much better the second time around:
Prince "1999" - peaked at #44 upon first release in 1982, re-released following "Little Red Corvette" and went to #12 Bruce Hornsby and the Range "Every Little Kiss" - peaked at #72 in September 1986 upon first release, went to #14 the following July after a second release Paul Simon "You Can Call Me Al" - similar to "Every Little Kiss", peaked in September '86 (#44), then was re-released in 1987 and made it to #26 in May Frankie Goes To Hollywood "Relax" - this song did hit #10 in March 1985 a little less than a year after topping out at #67 during its first chart run Madonna "Lucky Star" - I believe this song was her first or second release from her self-titled LP in late '83/early '84 and didn't chart the first time around, then went to #4 in October after being re-released following "Borderline"
