How about "Convention '72" by The Delegates? That was, somehow, a Top 10 hit.

Not Top 40, but Public Enemy's "Fight the Power" begins by mentioning 1989.

This one didn't crack the 40 either but Casey just played it to kick off the AT20 from 10/6/07....1973 by James "You're Beautiful" Blunt. BTW, one that DID hit the 40 is the Smashing Pumpkins "1979". Know the latter song well but had never heard the James Blunt song.

I remember hearing "1973" at the time and for some reason, it reminded me of "An Everlasting Love" by Andy Gibb.

TLC mention 1992 in their 1992 single "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg."

In "Him & I" by G-Eazy & Halsey, he mentions 2017 Bonnie & Clyde.

There's a line in "Rock Me Amadeus" that goes something like, "In 1985, pop star Falco records 'Rock Me Amadeus'." [...] A little more exactly: In 1756, Salzburg, January 27, Wolfgang Amadeus is born In 1761, at the age of five Amadeus begins composing In 1773, he writes his first piano concerto In 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart marries Constance Weber In 1784, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart becomes a free mason In 1791, Mozart composes "The Magic Flute" On December 5th of that same year, Mozart dies In 1985, Austrian rock singer Falco records Rock Me Amadeus !

… did Casey ever play that version of Rock Me Amadeus? Yes, it was played during the majority of its run: 3/1 (debut week), 3/22, 3/29, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17 (final week), and the 1986 year-end. The American Edit was played on the other shows not listed. I used to have the 45, which had both versions. I still don't know which version I like better, 32 years later. They're both good.

Wow, you're good. I prefer the timeline version, so I'll keep an eye out for those shows.

I remember a radio morning show back in the 1990's would occasionally play the German version of Rock Me Amadeus. A listener called in one day to ask why they don't play the English version. The wise guy hosts insisted that they do play the English version, and while playing the German version would point out the words "Rock Me Amadeus...see, that's English!"
Funny what we remember...

I bet Premiere airs one more 1986 show this spring before "Amadeus" drops out on the 5/24 show. 5/3 hasn't aired in a while (2010), and 5/17 could also be repeated (2015). 4/12 was guest-hosted.

The Sure Shot on Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 this past weekend was "2002" by Anne-Marie, and it looks like it'll hit AT40 in the next couple of weeks. And it has the line, "fast forward to '18..."

Although some versions cut it off, Bruce Springsteen talks at the beginning of his live version of "War" and mentions 1985, which would chart the following year.
