I'm not talking about where an artist is listed as a duet partner or given a "featuring" credit. I mean artists (before or after they hit the Top 40 themselves) who did uncredited background singing, performing, etc. One of the most famous examples is Michael Jackson singing on Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me". Also, Michael McDonald sang backup on a number of hits in and around 1980. There's also: * Elton John singing on Neil Sedaka's "Bad Blood". * The Bangles singing on Cyndi Lauper's "Change of Heart". * Stevie Nicks singing on John Stewart's "Gold" and Walter Egan's "Magnet and Steel". * A young Fergie was in the choir of children singing on Martika's "Toy Soldiers". Elton John and Stevie Nicks both received credit for singing on those songs I was referring to label credit (although I could be mistaken if they did receive label credit and I didn't know it; I was using Whitburn's books as a reference for some of these). Recent example that I don't think has been mentioned yet: Nile Rodgers on Daft Punk/Pharrell's "Get Lucky".

- Although the Grateful Dead only charted once in the Top 40, Jerry Garcia's guitar work can be heard on Brewer & Shipley's "One Toke Over The Line", Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Teach Your Children", and Bruce Hornsby and the Range's "Across The River". Garcia wasn't on "One Toke" although he did appear on Brewer & Shipley's album.

Sounds like Christine McVie doing the "all I need is you" line. Is Stevie Nicks also there?

John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr (vocals) George Harrison - My Sweet Lord (1970-1971) Urban legend? Could be, so I've now removed this one, although my Mom, a big fan of The Beatles since 1964 has always thought otherwise.

Clarence Clemons appeared on Aretha Franklin's "Freeway Of Love" and Lady GaGa's "The Edge Of Glory". He's also on Gary US Bonds' "This Little Girl" and "Out of Work" along with the rest of the E Street Band who played on Gary's early '80s albums. Clemons is also on "He Can't Love You" by the Michael Stanley Band

Jr Walker - Sax solo on Foreigner's "Urgent". Not a top 40 hit, but Elton John played piano on Jackson Browne's "Redneck Friend".
Sorry about the Garcia/One Toke... faux pas pb.
