Congratulations to Billboard. Here I've been fooling myself into thinking you couldn't become a bigger joke and you've proven me wrong yet again.

Congratulations to Billboard. Here I've been fooling myself into thinking you couldn't become a bigger joke and you've proven me wrong yet again. Don't blame Billboard. Blame the roughly 100,000 people who bought the album - giving him his best week ever in that regard, by the way.

Any publication that has a methodology that allows this fool to hit #1 is to be blamed. Yes I know I'm probably being irrational. I really cannot stand him!

Paul, you'll also be pleased to hear that "Word Crimes" debuts at #39 on the Hot 100 to become Al's fourth Top 40 hit there. He's now had one Top 40 Hot 100 hit in four consecutive decades.
Edit: Oops, that was already posted in another thread, so you already heard the good news.

Can't say I agree with the Weird Al hate, though I guess it's somewhat surprising that he's still so popular, considering he's been doing the same schtick for 30-plus years.

"Word Crimes" is a great song. I am tired of seeing well-educated and thoughtful people butcher the English language. The video and lyrics address that problem straight-on.
But the one I really enjoyed was "Mission Statement". A great Crosby, Stills, and Nash-type parody (think a "Carry On'", "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" medley), whose message about corporate-speak is quite appropriate in today's business world. It's also in line with C,S & N's disdain for big business.
Weird Al hit the nail on the head with those 2 songs.

I grew up with Weird Al, as a kid he was one of the first artists I enjoyed listening to and found humorous. Many of my favorites from him transferred to some of my favorite 80s and 90s songs when I got older and discovered the "real versions"

Congratulations to Weird Al on his long awaited first #1 album. But will this release go down as his 'best' album? The long overdue #1 albums by LL Cool J, Neil Diamond, and Jimmy Buffett turned out to be the weakest sets of their careers. Let's hope we don't add Weird Al to this list.

In Weird Al's case that "honor" would have to compete with sets like the epic flop that was 1986's Polka Party.

If the album chart is based strictly on unit sales... then the best selling CD/album should be #1 and the American public should be blamed for Weird Al's appearance at #1. Premiering eight videos in eight days certainly helped his visibility... "Word Crimes" already has over 11 million views, and with YouTube views being part of the Singles chart, chances are WC will climb the Singles charts quickly. Knowing the novelty of the song, WC will likely drop off the chart quickly.

I've been a "Weird Al" fan since the fall of 1979 when his parody of The Knack's "My Sharona" called "My Bologna" became a substantial hit on "The Dr.Demento Show"-Three years earlier,he was mailing Dr.Demento his songs-These weren't parodies but they were quite amusing-The two songs were "Belvedere Cruising" & "School Cafeteria"

FYI:"Mandatory Fun" is the first comedy album in 51 years to top The Billboard 200 album chart-In the summer of 1963,Allan Sherman ruled the roost with "My Son The Nut"-Like Yankovic,Sherman specialized in song parodies-Sherman was the first novelty artist that I remember listening to as a child.

FYI:"My Son The Nut" provided Sherman with his biggest hit:"Hello Mudduh,Hello Fadduh" which peaked at # 2 in the summer of 1963.
