Blues guitar legend Johnny Winter passed away on July 16th while on tour in his Zurich, Switzerland hotel room. Though he only reached the lower rungs of the Hot 100 with his interpretations of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Johnny B. Goode", his legendary guitar playing transcended conventional commercial success. He earned 3 Grammys for his production work with Muddy Waters as well.
RIP Johnny. There's a spot center stage with your name on it as part of the big jam session in the sky.
Although The Rolling Stone article credits Johnny for co-writing this 1970 lost classic, he actually co-produced this lost classic with the writer Rick Derringer. Derringer and members of his former band, the McCoys provided backup. Rick's top 40 version would chart early in 1974.
