I know 12/14/02 has an affair LDD that stirred some controversy on here when it aired. Ah yes, on the "VoyForums" version of the boards! I remember that - the cheating wife feeling that she was in the right in what she was doing. Now, I did not hear the dedication, as the only version of the AT40/AT20 available in my listening area was the AC show, which was pre-empted by the Christmas Top 30 from the year before (not even sure there was a regular version of that particular show produced for AC radio), but I do remember reading the topics, from people who couldn't believe that they actually read the LDD.

And there was a regular AC show for 12/14/2002 Oh, OK. I guess that was a courtesy for stations that didn't flip to nonstop holiday music (since IIRC, there weren't as many stations doing that as there are now). I believe it was in 2004 that AT40 began producing new holiday shows every week and weren't those the only shows offered that year? The two years before that, WLIT would run the same Christmas Top 30 special in place of the show's time slot every week, so there would be at least something besides regular programming (in holiday mode) at that time. As I said, in 2002, they played the show produced and originally run in 2001 and in 2003, there was an updated version with about five new songs and perhaps a few switched around). The new holiday shows in 2004 included a two-part Top 60 Christmas countdown. After that year, WLIT dropped AT20 (which was actually AT10 at that point), so I don't know how they did the Christmas shows after that, whether they produced more new shows or played the same ones, or went back to producing regular shows.

Doing a quick look through my collection, the only dates for AT10 that has an overlap (meaning both regular and Christmas shows were produced/offered a particular week) were:
2006-11-18 2006-11-25 2007-11-17 2007-11-24 2008-11-22
I'll have to listen to all these shows, but it appears that the Christmas shows offered during the last few years of AT10 are the same ones Premiere is offering currently during the 6 to 7 weeks ramping up to Christmas, but aired in a different order. Here's what I have:
2004-11-20: Christmas Around The World 2004-11-27: Greatest Christmas Hits & Memories From The Past & Present 2004-12-04: Same as 11/27, but with different songs and voice tracks. 2004-12-11: Top 60 Christmas Hits, Part 1 2004-12-18: Top 60 Christmas Hits, Part 2 2005-11-12: Christmas Movie Hits & Memories
I discovered I have to re-tag the description on many of these; I had copied and pasted from original shows that I hadn't gone back to redo. Whoops. 😂
2005 had 7 weeks of Christmas shows from 11/12 to 12/24, whereas 2004 had 6. I'll have to listen to them all, but 11/12 is the only different (additional) show from the 2004 lineup. And the top 60 has a few differences as well.
The final regular shows for 2004 and 2005 of AT10 were:
2004-11-13 2005-11-05

Prior to 2004 there was one AT20 Christmas show that was available from 2001 and then updated in 2003. Stations that flipped would often play that same show every week for the duration of their flip. The show was usually offered as an "alternate" for all affiliates the first weekend in December when Ed McMann filled in on the show that would have been recorded the week of Thanksgiving.

Oh, so I did guess that right (see the bottom of the previous page). Talk about adding insult to injury...

We won't hear this one as it's from the October 24, 1987 show (hosted by Charlie Van Dyke), but - file this one under OOPS because the song chosen really doesn't fit the sentiment: LDD dedicated to a mother from her family as she trains for an upcoming marathon to let her know they're proud of her. The song they pick: "I'm So Excited" by the Pointer Sisters. The writer from the one on June 20, 1992 doesn't seem like the most sympathetic person, either - she requests "Keep Coming Back" for a guy she'd been in a relationship with. The guy had been a recovering alcoholic...up until not too long before she wrote in, because she'd taken the guy to a restaurant where alcohol is served in effort to get him to confront his addictions and defeat them head-on. You can probably guess how that went... (HINT: Not well.)

Would the dedication to the Raggedy Andy doll on the 3/21/1981 show go in the "meaning lost" category? Thank You For Being a Friend would have been a much better choice.

Sometimes (like with the silly/lame braces dedication), my reaction is, "You mean you didn't have ANY better letters to choose from that week?"

The Uncle Charlie and his Dog Teddy prologue found on the 45 version of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Mr Bojangles " would have been a better LDD than the Raggedy Andy LDD on this weekend's shows, but Casey's "Shaggy Dog" story on the 71 show was the best narrative piece.

The song "Babe" wasn't that bad of a choice. Just listen to the lyrics of the chorus and it definitely goes along with what she said in the LDD. Whenever she was having a bad day, all she had to do was hold her doll and she felt better. The verses sort of related to the dedication as well, especially since the doll was old and beat up and it was only a matter of time before she would have to part with it.

So, here I am now listening to the show from 4/28/84 and yet another inappropriate dedication. A brother dedicates Journey's "Faithfully" to his sister. This dedication will be heard this weekend. I've heard this show when it last aired but don't remember the dedication so I'm kind of looking forward to see how high it lands on the creepy meter.

Here's an example of where the dedication wasn't in bad taste, but the jingle was: The first LDD on the 4/25/1987 show was one from a woman who dedicated Greatest Love of All to women who have been in abusive relationships. The jingle that played afterwards? "The hits from coast to coast".
(I recalling hearing at least one or two other shows had did the same thing with LDD's about abuse.)
